"Asynchronous Multiplayer"? What does that mean?
The term makes me think of old-school NES games like Super Mario Bros. where Mario and Luigi had to take turns playing when the other player died ... I really hope that's not something someone would implement in a modern-day game ...

I'm thinking it means wifi multiplayer, because of the literal definition of asynchronous. Perhaps two players doing whatever together without having to be within local range.

No, it's like you can see other players' "ghosts" but you don't actually play with them
the kickstarter page defines it better but I'm posting from my phone so I cant really paste it
Don't take this as me just being a shit, but I honest to god can't find any reason why I'd care about that in a game except for if I'm stuck somewhere and want to follow someone and just not figure it out myself/look it up.

I agree, that's why i put the (egh) after it
I personally think it's a waste of time/money/resources and seems like it's just there to bait souls fans

I wouldn't mind having player ghosts of my friends in a boss-rush mode, but not the main game.

As long as it's something that can be turned on/off, I'm fine with it...
It's something that would be cool if there was some kind of survival mode where you can freely explore the map (I guess like Smash Run). Bosses respawn when you leave their rooms, etc.

It seems there was a podcast in which the remaining stretch goals were revealed:
4 Million: Spoiler:Online Race Mode (racing to beat a level/boss). May have Co-Op elements like Harmony of Despair with rare item drops.
4.25 Million: Spoiler:3rd Playable Character
4.5 Million: Spoiler:Companion Pixel (8 or 16bit) Game. Size of game still being decided. Free to backers of a certain level (level not decided yet - might be at least $60 tier). Will likely be sold later to non-backers.
Secret Last Stretch Goal: Spoiler:It's still a secret but is supposedly mind melting.

Half a day goes by and another stretch goal is reached!
The Vita port is now official and suddenly a bunch more stretch goals have been revealed!
Is that a 3DS port lurking in the darkness?!?!!?
Also, it's the final week!
It's predicted that this campaign will pass 4 million, but will the final 48 hour stretch be enough to pass 5????
(Miriam is really short...)
oh man, i'd kill for an orchestrated soundtrack. and it better be a live recorded one! not the fake one that most vidya games do these days..

Live recorded is what they mean by orchestrated :p
Speculation so far is that the entire soundtrack won't be orchestrated, but several (probably high profile) tracks will and of course the ones where an orchestra would be fitting.
Just objecting a little
but Orchestra is not automatically better than any other type of music. Sure, it's always nice to hire a fuckton of musicians and make them perform the music, but part of Castlevania's charm is still the game-styled music. I don't mean 'put square waves here and there and add fakebits', but 'add drumkits, pop instruments and some synthetizers' is mroe than enough. After all this is also Michiru Yamane's style. Just see Order of Ecclesia and its jazzy arranges alongside orchestrated pieces.

im fully aware of this. its just nice to have a change of pace, since most modern video game soundtracks are done digitally.

The orchestrated tracks stretch goal has been reached!
As I suspected, they confirmed that orchestration would only be used when and where it makes sense, while the rest of the soundtrack will still retain Yamane's signature style.
In addition, Yoshitaka Amano (the artist who does that really ugly cover art for all the Final Fantasy games) has been brought on board to create a poster for the Collector's Box tiers.
