Ripping Sprites from SY-881 300 in 1 Bootleg Handheld
#1
Hey all, I found an image of an intro from one of those Chinese handheld bootlegs with a bunch of NES games on them that had these anthro foxes dancing. This made me want to find the rom, and rip the contents of the bootleg minus the games within the handheld. I found a rom, downloaded it, and used it with an emulator called "EmuVT", which I think is for emulating roms from these handhelds with that same processor, including being able to play NES roms since these handhelds are pretty much NES on a chip, but with a VT03 chip which gives the games more palettes which is interesting, and I believe the Vii uses a VT series chip. So I run the rom I got, and it works as it should, but not only is the palettes screwed up outside of an NES/Famicom game, but there are these lines of screwed up placements for pixels which there are 5 of these bands. The only option that works for this rom is "VT09_LCD", and all the others just show a black screen, even "VT09_TV". The emulator I'm using is the latest version from the site (1.43). I then later on found that this handheld is on Mess, so I went to try it after putting the rom in the roms folder as a ZIP file, which fixed the palette issue, but those stupid lines are still there, and the github for the rom's support on Mess says that's an issue to fix.

Below I have a few images of sheets I'm working on from this, and have used YY-CHR to view the rom in "48PP 8X8" to view the tiles, and rip. I know what the proper palettes are as I've seen screenshots of the rom running with the right palettes, and Mess runs the game with the right palettes too. I know in Mess hitting F4 overlays a palette viewer, and hitting enter switches to the graphics, which I can see the dancing foxes on, so I could give that a try for the sheets. I don't know Chinese, so the font for the Chinese language are going to be like that. Those are all the letters I got from the rom from before the data for the games in the handheld itself start btw.

I did'int know if I should have posted this on the "Ripping Help", or this topic. If it should be moved to that other one let me know, and/or do it for me. I'm also wondering if it would be fine to submit the sheet of the menus without the Chinese font, then later on add it as a revision. Also once I do upload the sheets, for the game should I add it to NES since it is an NES on a chip, or to Plug & Play since most times these devices have an av out to view on the TV, including this one.
