Sprite in multiple games
#1
Hello!

I was reading through all the rules, and the submission process, but I couldn't find an answer for this anywhere. Very Sad

I wanted to submit some spritesheets for Digimon Dawn/Dusk, and World Championship, maybe finally get the Lost Evolution and Xros Red/Blue sprites on here as well. However, in the case of the story games, most of the digimon sprites are reused each title, only adding a handful of new ones each games, and a few exclusives.

Which is why I came here, should I submit them to each game? If so, how would I go about it? I don't want to end up clogging your queue.. Ouch!

And if not, should I just upload the sprites added in that game?

Thank you!

There isn't really a standard rule for this, as it's generally quite a rare case. I would usually go with submitting them to each game, mostly because this is generally what I see done. A good example is Metal Slug. Most of the game share many sprites, if you look at the first five titles they even have a few sheets that are completely identical. I think this makes the most sense because people will usually be looking for a specific game and expect any ripped sprites from that game to be on the page.

However in this specific case, being a Digimon game, I would assume that the reused sprites are pretty large in volume. This isn't great because while Metal Slug might have the same 5 or so sheets for a few character and vehicles, in this case I would assume the majority of sheets are identical. In this case it may be a good idea to just put them in what makes sense as the "first" or "base" game. It wouldn't hurt to add a note on some of the sheets from the other games, if you think it would help redirect people.
Keep in mind that if there are any changes in the sprites between games (more or less frames, some kind of size or colour change, etc) and they aren't exactly identical then you definitely should add them to each game.

I think that ultimately you should use your own judgement on this, or wait to get feedback from more people. Unfortunately there isn't really any concrete rule to follow on this though.

Hm, the way I've been doing it for my own submissions (e.g. Metal Slug, Disgaea or Twilight Frontier's Touhou fighters), if they share sprites I feel it's better submit it to whatever's the most recent one at the time, since there's usually new additions.

But that being said, there's no harm in submitting the same sheet to all of the games where they appear, if it's applicable. Just be sure to leave a message explaining as such in the notes section.

Thank you both for your replies! For the sake of the team who goes through the spritesheets, I think i'll just submit new/updated ones. I don't want them to suffer going through the same 100 or so several times Sweatdrop

Appreciate it!  Genki ^_^
