Edit Reason: added a bigger one for yall
)
So, similar to Toei, I made my own rendition/version/style of sonic (aka G sonic)[img]

However, a lot of people in the sonic spiriting discord claims its just an lazy excuse so do less work,
while I can see where they're coming from, the art style I've chose is meant to resemble the art style most modern cartoons use, like family guy, the Simpsons and, well, mania adventures.
So, what do you guys think? I would really like to hear your opinion.

The thing is you CAN see where they're coming from. But did you do it for less effort, or did you do it to suit a preferred pallet and aesthetic? That's what really matters. And people throw the word "lazy" around if the sprite hasn't been built from the ground up, so take it with a grain of salt. It looks alright to me if you're going for a certain style of Sonic (which is subjective and really none of my concern). It has a bit of a Saturday morning cartoon feel to me, but that's just what I think of it.
You worthless piece of scrap metal, did you think you could defeat me?

It's a good start. You have the actual basics o for him down so it does actually look like him (props for that). However the shading on it is quite lacking. I understand that you are going for a unique art-style. However if it's not done correctly it can come off as lazy instead of styilzed. I recommend TripleJazz's guide if you are going for a toei sonic style:
