Need help with ripping some nintendo DS sounds
#1
Hi guys i've been all around the net but could not find a solution for my problem. I'm trying to rip character voices from a ds game - Katekyoo Hitman Reborn Flame Rumble XX. I usually use Tinke as it is very easy to use and haven't had any problems but when I open this game many of the sounds appear to be hidden and i can't see them. Also tinke says - file recognized 66%. Does that mean it can't read the remaining sounds? Please see the image - you can see that many of the numbers are missing.

Hiya Oberst_Kroenen!

To begin, it could be that the streams were just numbered weirdly during production and are all intact, or it could be that some are hidden like you said. Personally, I use a tool called VGMTrans for extracting DS music and SFX, and it seemed to be able to pick up all of the sound banks and BGM. Check it out here: https://github.com/vgmtrans/vgmtrans/releases

Also, the "Recognized files: 66%" message doesn't necessarily refer to the file you're viewing, but instead the entire file system of the game. To elaborate, there are some archives and other files found in games that Tinke doesn't have a standard for, and therefore can't unpack or extract. It most likely has nothing to do with the sound files.

Hope this helps, cheers!

Resistiv, thank you for your reply.

I have tried using VGMTrans and it does work for the game music but it does not show the character voices at all which are labeled as STRM.

P.S. The wave sounds seen on this screenshot are in battle voices and I can see them all as well in tinke. The STRM files are the problem. Also in the previous games from the same series the STRM files all appear and are numbered in the correct order - 100, 101, 102 and so on. While on this one the numbers skip like from 100 to 150 and the 50 sounds in between do no appear in the program but they do exist in the game.
