Requesting help ripping .jmdl files (Wii Fit U)
#1
Hey there!

I wanted to mess around with a couple models from Wii Fit U, and to my surprise there were no models posted on Models Resource so I thought well maybe I can rip them myself. And, needless to say, I think I might be a little bit in over my head. However, I would really love to try to get these into a workable format, so that's why I'm here.

Browsing the files, there are a handful of different formats, but the most relevant format I assume is .jmdl. I looked around quite a bit and it seems like there might be a few games that use (at least a similarly named) .jdml as well, with some people having success converting them, but not a lot of information on how to do it.

Other file formats that are seemingly important are .jarc and .carc files. Presumably these are containers for more files, but the most I could do was use a QuickBMS script on a .jarc file, which spit out a single .jmdl before crashing.

Beyond that there are also .jtex files. There aren't many of them, so I presume that textures for models are baked into the .jmdl format. But even trying to use them in a couple different versions of jTexTool I found on these forums yielded no results whatsoever.

Here are some example files using the formats I mentioned, I can upload more if requested.
.jmdl - coin.jmdl
.jarc - LoadingDemo_00.jarc
.carc - pet_test.carc
.jtex - checker128x128.jtex

But yeah, I feel like I've bitten off a little more than I can chew, but would love it if someone could point me in the right direction of getting these models into a usable format. Thanks! Heart

Sure, based off the filenames these sound like they might be characters. Though not sure how Miis are handled, as they're customizable.

EDIT: Doesn't look like those attachments actually... attached to the post. Here's an external link.

Thanks for the sample files.
Sorry for the late report but I had some progress.

To get the 3D models from the jmdl file, I will try to create a script to export them to .obj
I don't want you to have hope, because I'm still learning about programming, but I'll pay attention to that kind of file.

Note: .jmdl files contain .jimg textures, my knowledge of how to extract texture is null; so we will have to wait for the help of a charitable soul to analyze these textures or you can create a new poster on this forum in the texture session. or in other forums like zenhax

Note 2: Although the script is not out yet and if you really want a texture 3d model of the game, try using 3d ripper dx with the Dophin emulator.

Some files converted  to .obj

This is awesome, dude. Even if you don't have success making a script, you've still provided very valuable information.

I've been looking at the .jarc and jtex files and as you said, the script dumps just a jmdl file but contains other files in them that are not extracted by the script, try talking to the script creator to try to make an update to work with this file.
The jmdl file extracted from jarc contains 3d meshes.
Already the file .jtex maybe I can convert it but I don't know if what I convert is the image that should appear, could you send some more image files .jtex?

Converted image of the file you provided.
