Trying to rip models from PS3 .xxx files
#1
So i was going to rip some models from Transformers War for cybertron, fall of cybertron and dark of the moon. However all the files are encrypted in a file format i do not recognise, that being .xxx

So i was wondering if anyone new how to decrypt and get the models, textures, sounds, etc from these games because searching online for what a .xxx file is and how to open it comes up with very little

Thank you

Those games all run on some version of the Unreal engine. From what I've seen, Unreal .pkg files get renamed to .xxx for the Playstation versions for some reason. They should be readable with Gildor's UE Viewer, though you will need to use the -ps3 command line option so it knows they're in PS3 format.

Unfortunately this seems to be the only stuff i come up with this error message if i select the entire folder with all the parts

Example
"Unable to read 1 bytes at pos=0x1760511C

FFileReader::Serialize:File=TexturesT.tfc <- FArchive::ByteOrderSerialize <- FCompressedChunkHeader<<:pos=1760511C <- appReadCompressedChunk <- FByteBulkData::SerializeDataChunk <- FByteBulkData::SerializeData <- UTexture2D::LoadBulkTexture:File=Transformers - Dark of The Moon [BLES01169] Part 4/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/TransGame/CookedPS3/TexturesT.tfc Mip=0 <- UTexture2D::GetTextureData:RB_SoldierHatchbackAArmor_Cust_MASK <- Upload2D:Texture2D'RB_SoldierHatchbackAArmor_Cust_MASK' <- UTexture2D::Bind <- UUnrealMaterial::SetMaterial:RB_SoldierHatchbackAArmor_Cust_MASK <- CUmodelApp::Draw3D:Obj=Texture2D'RB_SoldierHatchbackAArmor_Cust_MASK' <- CApplication::Display <- VisualizerLoop <- Main:umodel_build=1118"

or i come up with this if i choose the specific folder that contains all the sounds, models, etc

I'm afraid I'd need to have the files myself to really answer that. (And no, I'm NOT asking you for them, I'm just saying.) My only experience in ripping from console Unreal games is with Lollipop Chainsaw, and in that case, when reading the XBox 360 files I got somewhat oversaturated textures, and the PS3 version gave me garbled normal textures. I can only conclude that UModel's console version support is just less than ideal.

Really, the best would be to have the PC versions of the Transformers games, but they were pulled from stores a while ago due to licenses expiring, so if you didn't already have them you're SOL. You MIGHT get better results with the 360 version, if my Lollipop Chainsaw experience is any indicator, but since you already have the PS3 versions I'd say play around with UModel and see if you can figure something out before trying 360.

Guess i will have to hunt down steam keys for them then, War for Cybertron and Rise of the Dark Spark are a fair price. However most of the Fall of Cybertron keys are quite expensive, about 60 or 70 quid a pop.

And the problem with Dark of the Moon is that it was only released for 7th gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles so i guess i would have to hunt down the Xbox 360 version or get it from disk myself.

Thanks for your help anyways.
