Stance on PC mods
#1
Question
A bunch of my pending sheets were rejected because they "[weren't] accepting mods of PC games". Why is this? The sheets were for several Doom PWADs, which they've accepted beforehand.

And now they're not.

It's been something that the staff have been discussing for the past few months due to complaints from the community, and we've made the decision to not accept them anymore. In addition, several Doom mod game sections already on The Spriters Resource have also just been removed (hence my "and now they're not" comment).

It seems a bit arbitrary which ones stayed and went. Batman Doom, Hell to Pay, Kick Attack, and Perdition's Gate stayed, but Aliens TC and Ultimate Simpsons Doom went. What's different about those?

Batman Doom: Made by ACE Team before they got into the gaming business (before Rock of Ages and Zeno Clash and such), kept because of which.
Hell to Pay / Perdition's Gate (and by extent HacX): Commercial releases, kept because they're some of the few that were.
Kick Attack: Promotional release akin to Chex Quest, developed by Tim Willits of id Software, kept because of official connection.

It's not as arbitrary as you think.

Seeing as I'm one of the main artists for Jazz Jackrabbit Doom along with the head developer BassSlappeer89. Most of the sprites for the mod would likely go into the custom section for the series.
With the only exceptions being the enemies made exclusive to it. (Since some worlds have a tiny roster of enemies, I added a few custom ones to expand it)
And whatever else was original in it. (New props for each world, NPCs exclusive to it, and the Easter Eggs, which are done in the same way as the Build Engine ones)

As for official games made with GZDOOM, that depends on the creators themselves if they're fine with rips being available or not, unless they have year long or so mandates. (ALA Undertale and Ion Fury)
Which is why I've been hands off on ripping Rekkr, Hands of Necromancy, Hedon, demos for Supplice, Selaco, Adventures of Square, Beyond Sunset, and anything by Scumhead.
Same with Unity-based first person shooters with sprites. (Most of them only recently came out this year, no less)

By that definition, would H!ZONE be allowed, since it saw a commercial release (And was developed by the team behind Duke: Nuclear Winter)? What about the add-ons playable in the 2019 re-release, which include Harmony, The Plutonia Experiment, and TNT: Evilution?
