Trying to rip the 2018 Xbox Avatars before they become unusable
#1
I was told the news of the 2018 Xbox Avatars being discontinued and unusable at the beginning of 2025
these Avatars run on Unity, as opposed to whatever version of XNA the OG ones run on
so using any Unity ripper would work
though
I don't have any idea how I could rip the textures, only a few showed up when I used AssetViewer but not all of the ones for the clothing items
I could rip the models, but textures don't seem to be found, and I really don't know how I could find the textures
there's a UnityCache Folder (in the LocalState Folder for Appdata\Local\Packages), and the base models are found in the installation folder (in WindowsApps, the folder is named "Microsoft.XboxIdentity_100.1906.4002.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe")
I just really want to try to upload the models and such here so that they don't end up being lost media
I'm obviously the only one who cares about them, and I doubt anyone else would really care about my attempts at archiving them
but if you do, I would very much enjoy some guidance, and maybe even a second hand in ripping all the assets for uploading to Models Resource

The most I want is just some help trying to rip the textures, or even just someone to help rip every single shop item so that they can be archived
it's tedious to repeatedly open and close the shop menu just to add the model to the UnityCache, so having someone do the female models while I do the male models would speed up the process substantially

You can try AssetStudio instead. Point it at the folder with your assets using File > Load Folder, then go into the Asset List tab and filter for Texture2D. If the textures you want are in the files you have, they'll pop up in there. If they're not, that's also why they're not popping up in AssetRipper and you'll need to find some other way of getting them.

I tried AssetStudio and I still don't see any textures
only images of decals put on hats and such
I do wanna find the "procedural textures" that are used for stuff like changing colors of clothing but I doubt it's possible

Hrm. If they're not stored in an alpha/RGB channel image, those kinds of textures could possibly be in a shader. AssetStudio has historically has trouble with those, so that's...probs not gonna work any further anyway.

You might try asking in the UnityPy discord server, to which there is a link on their GitHub; they're more likely to know about odd Unity cases like this there than here. Beyond that I got nothin'. Good luck.
