King's Field (PS1 Trilogy) Rips
#1
[Image: MPAut6kk_o.png]

In early October, I started ripping the first King's Field (As in King's Field JP). I didn't work on it for a while, but I can now say that 109 submissions and some mild wrist problems later, just about all the important models are now pending. There's still some models that have not been ripped, but they're mostly just map pieces and a some props. For now, I think I'm done ripping this game. Here's some of my favorites:

Once my wrists are feeling okay again, I'll start on the next two games (as long as I don't have to fix too many of the current submissions) and maybe Ancient City if I can figure it out.

King's Field (2J) is now about half way done. So far, all enemies, NPC's and weapons are awaiting approval. Unlike it's predecessor, this game uses textures in place of vertex colors, which my wrists are very thankful for. There's still quite a bit of work to do, but I wanted to share some models I found cool:
[Image: AC0ua2O8_o.png][Image: P2Tjh7mt_o.png][Image: GQL6n2kl_o.png][Image: el6EaTNb_o.png]
(Arbalest, Dark Slayer, Moonlight Sword, Seath's Sword)

(Billent, Earth Elemental, Guyra, Kraken, Mecha-Demon Lord, Necron, S-Knight, which I imagine is short for Snail Knight)
There's still plenty more cool models but I'll keep it to these for now. I'm excited to wrap this game up so I can start working on the next one, which is my favorite -- though obviously I don't want to rush it.

So, there's some rips I want to show off but one in particular I want to talk about

[Image: thJfsjCE_o.png][Image: WmHye56A_o.png][Image: CRm1o1gd_o.png][Image: yaYL4TGN_o.png][Image: 5j2FYS0f_o.png]
We have, from left to right:, Figure of Seath, Phantom Rod, Potions, Leg Guarders, Ruinous Boots
And then there's the "Ground Bell"...

This item caused me so much grief. Since the models and textures have to be ripped separately, I have to reference it in-game to see what textures it uses. I've been using cheat codes to add items to my inventory, but for some reason this item decided not to work (I actually don't know if it even appears in the inventory...) and I didn't feel like progressing to the point of getting this item. I did have an idea of what the textures would be so I put them on the model, though I still wanted to make sure they were correct. Therefore, I searched the internet, which usually means scrubbing through playthroughs until I find a blurry frame of whatever I'm looking for. However, I could not find a single image of this item -- outside of one source. On a retro game achievement site ( https://retroachievements.org/achievement/113026 ) I found a small 64x image of it -- in black and white. Eventually I figured I could probably edit the site source to get it to show and sure enough, I found the full color version. And of course, it was the textures I had suspected (Great use of my time!)
Now I just have a handful of items and some map pieces before I can call this game done

Shocked

I finished ripping King's Field II, except a few things. At some point I'll go back through and rip the remaining models but everything "important" has been ripped. I was able start ripping stuff from King's Field III so I'll put some of those here:
[Image: HqGbF3le_o.png][Image: GA3SxGO9_o.png][Image: BucxwQPN_o.png][Image: 3f9eQZKH_o.png][Image: ov8rOBsE_o.png]
(Leon Shore --> Guard --> Crooked Demon --> Stool)
This game bumps up the complexity quite a bit. Where in King's Field II a character might have anywhere from 1-3 (Occasionally more) textures, characters in this often push 6. Aesthetically though this is probably my favorite of the King's Field games. I love that it's not afraid to just be all out fantasy, and it also takes a lot of inspiration from Jewish mythology which leads to a lot of really cool stuff.
Maybe thinking too far into the future, but once this is done I would like to see about ripping Shadow Tower. I've tried using the ripping process on it that I use for these games and if I remember right it worked fine? Not quite sure but if all goes well that's what I'll do

Tongue
Spent the day ripping the weapons and managed to get all 30 of them submitted! Here's some of them:

So I have maybe 75% of King's Field III ripped at this point -- there's more to that but I want to show some models first:
[Image: UuAWBJrx_o.png][Image: DWcC2adU_o.png][Image: VLKGNaCZ_o.png][Image: khKkmijo_o.png][Image: OYrPBt8D_o.png][Image: c3cyt3O4_o.png][Image: xV9nNAPl_o.png]
(Blood Demon Head --> Zul Arifin --> Gullick --> Jens --> Joe Santos --> Mark Johnson --> Wilfred Light's Skeleton)
I had begun ripping the final bosses, and the models were just as easy to rip as anything else, but I cannot for the life of me find the textures. They're genuinely nowhere to be found in any of the places they should be. I've been looking all throughout the CD files and still can't find them, so while I'm not giving up on those models, I don't know when I'll be able to submit them.

Something cool I found though -- this guy, Rene Thomas, has a cool little easter egg on the mouth hole of his pipe:

This creature, with text that apparently says "Dummy" according to google translate.

This is cool. What's your process for ripping these? I have a half-finished script for extracting the current Shadow Tower map from a RAM+VRAM dump sitting around somewhere, but I never managed to figure out a few things I needed to finish it.
3D Screenshot Tools (NDS / N64 / PS1 / PS2)
Other Tools (apicula / Vagrant Story / Star Ocean Blue Sphere)

Hey thanks -- for models I'm actually just able to rip them with PSXPrev. King's Field JP can have it's textures ripped with it as well but there's some extra steps with the other two.

First I extract the .T files from the bin file (I just use AnyBurn for this). Once those are extracted I use the King's Field Texture Tool to extract the TIM files. Finally I run those through PSXPrev to get them as pngs.

Shadow Tower is interesting -- I can rip some textures using the King's Field method but I don't believe I got any models unfortunately. I don't quite have the programming capabilities at the moment to be able to understand what's going on in the files so that's probably what I'm going to look into once I've wrapped this up. If you find anything out I'd love to hear it though

This game is basically done being ripped at this point there's just a lot of map objects left to do -- I need to take a while off of doing this though

I was actually able to find a hacky way to get the textures for the final bosses so those are submitted now

[Image: JL1MLlIE_o.png][Image: QEdGeNVQ_o.png]
(Jean Alfred Forester --> White Dragon Seath)
Here's some of the map objects I ripped as well:

(Marilyn's Son --> Nora's Body --> Royal Emblem --> Save Crystal --> Town Sign)
I'm currently sitting at 556 pending submissions so I think now's a good time to ease off a bit. Aside from ripping this game, I still also need to wrap up some things from the first two so I have that to look forward to I guess
(Edit: weird that these two posts get connected)
