Hello, this is DigiMaverickWorld0rder with something important I wanna share. I used to be part of Corvus' MegaMan Xtreme 2 Remastered team a long time ago, albeit in an advisory role, with some light asset contributions. Unfortunately, the project has since gone dark, and my attempts at correspondence have met with nothing but radio silence. I cannot say whether Megaman Xtreme 2 Remastered is still in development or not, but... I figured now was as good an opportunity as any to share with you all my ideas for the Xtreme games, most especially MegaMan Xtreme 3.
Now, Corvus did have a vision of his own in mind for Xtreme 3's plot, however... our creative differences regarding the direction in which we wanted it to go was a factor in our unofficial falling out. I won't in good conscience disclose what Corvus had in mind for the game's story, since it's officially confidential. That said, If there's one thing we do agree on, it's that the game would help set the stage for MegaMan X4. This is my pitch for how I feel the game should play out...
Set some time after the events of Xtreme 2, The Maverick Hunters and Repliforce receive an anonymous tip, and prepare to storm the location of Sigma’s latest body while it’s still undergoing completion. Working together, the Maverick Hunters and Repliforce raid Sigma’s hideout, and destroy the capsule housing his new body, and seemingly the body along with it. However, the tip off that provided the Hunters and Repliforce their preemptive strike, turns out to have had an ulterior motive behind it, as shortly after their siege on Sigma’s hideout, both parties receive a distress call regarding a large scale Maverick assault.
The Maverick Hunters and Repliforce promptly scramble to the scene, where they are met with a most unexpected perpetrator behind the latest Maverick incident; a Maverick whom bears a striking resemblance to X, introducing himself as X-Kai-, whom thanks the Hunters and their allies for taking care of Sigma for him, giving him the opportunity to call the shots as opposed to being Sigma’s latest pawn. He then issues our heroes a challenge, to see which party is ultimately more powerful; the combined forces of the Maverick Hunters and Repliforce, or X-Kai- and the Mavericks now under his command, whose abilities have been enhanced with his own DNA Data…
As you can see with this pitch for Xtreme 3’s story, X-Kai-, last of the X-Hunters, and intended by Sigma to be his latest no. 2, takes center stage as the main antagonist this time around, as opposed to serving second fiddle to him. He betrays Sigma at the start of the game, by orchestrating the preemptive assault on his hideout and capsule, not only to get him out of the way, but also as a diversion while he finalized preparations for his own plans; to prove his superiority over X and Zero, for reasons that become more clear later on, come the final confrontation...
However, unbeknownst to X-Kai-, the Maverick Hunters, and Repliforce, Sigma's latest body, non-other than the one from X4, HAS, in fact, survived the raid on his hideout... but its power is significantly reduced from what Sigma had originally intended. For this reason, he chooses to sit out the rest of Xtreme 3's events, up until the endgame stinger where X-Kai-'s treachery DID amount to something; it showed Sigma that when working together, the Maverick Hunters and Repliforce are more dangerous to his plans going forward than he'd anticipated. Thus, he would prepare to sow the seeds of dissension between the two organizations. In other words, it is X-Kai-‘s actions in MegaMan Xtreme 3 that ultimately seals Repliforce’s fate come MegaMan X4.
That said, I do have an alternative direction for the game's story, which would instead see Xtreme 3 serve as a prelude to MegaMan X5. The game would still play out similarly to the above premise, only with the obvious exclusion of Repliforce, among other necessary changes. This particular approach is actually what I originally had in mind for Xtreme 3, till I realized that the premise could easily be adjusted to set the stage for X4. I'm honestly not sure which direction I ultimately prefer, but hey, I'm flexible. All in all, what do you think of these ideas for Xtreme 3? Please let me know, it’d be most appreciated.
