KOF Maximum Impact Series - File Formats
#1
I am interested in ripping the sprites from the KOF Maximum Impact games, so I decided to look into it (maybe models too, but that's way too out of my confort zone).

Looking at the files inside the first game's ISO, there seems to be 5 primary file formats that are noteworthy:
  • .SFD files (may be sound related, sounds have been ripped for these games before)
  • .PAK files (these are stored inside the ALL.AFS file. .TXD files are stored inside this AFS file too)
  • .AFS files (an archive file format of sorts, can be opened with a tool like PuyoTools)
  • .BIN file (there's a single APDATA.BIN that seems to contain a bunch more files inside of it)
  • .ADX files (might be sound related too?)

Somebody on DeviantArt managed to rip some of the models from this game (well, Regulation A, but still), so surely it wouldn't be too hard, right? I'm mostly focused on sprites, but it could be useful knowledge anyways, specially for model ripping enthusiasts out there as well.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, this thread should probably be moved to the General Ripping subforum instead of here. Completely forgot that existed...
