Better belly highlight, I think.
EDIT: Seeing how many changes and revisions this has gone through, I return to my earlier statement of "we should figure out how we want this to look before doing most poses for the project", because if we keep changing things before coming to something definite we're going to have to keep changing the additions to the sheet over and over again.

The hat and the overalls don't need the brightest highlight. Unlike Sonic characters (who have been represented in a lot of the games as looking 'shiny'), Mario doesn't have that so much. The hat looks more like plastic than cloth ATM.

I just worry about it fitting in with the other sprites.

The proportions and palette do that for you more than the placement of highlights. If it becomes problematic, find a screenshot of Mario & Sonic Olympics or Brawl with them side by side, and use that as a reference (I'm aware that the Genesis style is more 'Chibi' than Modern Sonic, but a reference point is a reference point).

Here's some comparison renders using the models from Brawl: http://img198.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=msb.png
Ignore the pupil less eyes since Brawl models seem to store their eyes separately. As you can see, Mario is slightly shorter than Sonic which would realistically make him a little less than 3 feet tall.

Doing Mario in a Sonic style is (guess what?) a crossover And although they're the sanme height, the body and limb lengths are different. It would be logical to keep the head size similar though, I suppose. Thanked by: Gaia

For instance in the Smash games, compare Kirby's height to Samus's. Samus is supposedly around 6 to 7 feet tall, and Kirby... well, you'd see what I mean then. The Smash games aren't a good reference for size, as mentioned.

Mario is supposed to be a chibi italian plumber. That would make him around 1.50?

-Added Mario Crouching I'm not sure about how to make it look like in this style but I used the sprite on the left as a refrence

Looks pretty good actually.
