General Pokemon Discussion
i dont ever consider ev's because once i beat the game, i only battle with my friends who also dont give a damn, so its not a big deal for us.

C'mon guys. EV's are for people who suck balls at developing battle strategies, so they pimp out their Pokemon with shit that, despite the popularity, has not been confirmed by GameFreak as far as I know. The only people who have claimed to have proven it have absolutely no irl social skills (Serebii, for instance) and would profit socially from this 'discovery'.

on the contrary, its always been in the games

ever since red and blue, and pokemon platinum and hgss makes it obvious about your natures/EVs now, also remember those effort ribbons? guess what they were for?

but yeah, dont bash everyone who uses EVs, some of us actually liek playing competitivley with our pokemon at their max potential

evs are optional, if you just want a regular fight without caring the stats or nature, then thats fine, but TRUTH BE TOLD, that your pokemon will be terribly hindered and will have stats it shouldnt have, BUT IF YOU DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THAT, THATS OKAY TOO.

some people like playing competitively.

some dont, there. EV training is a bitch and it requires a lot of time wasting but hey thats how the game is, blame gamefreak for making them in the first place.

Give me the link, then I'll believe you.

Of course they made them...

...You don't "accidentally" program something like that.

'Intelligent Design' itt

When did I say they programmed it? I don't even believe in their existence.
Do you really know how "EVs" work? If anybody shows me the ASM or C++, then and only then will I believe.
Thanked by:
They work because everyone ever has seen the noticable difference there is when you train Pokémon that way.

How would Pokésav work if EVs didn't exist? It presents the option to set EVs manually, afterwhich you can see a huge different in the stats.
If there were no EVs, there would be no difference.

Okay, Anubis explained to me EV's in plain english.

Sounds better than Serebii's explanation, which had me confused as to exactly what they were.

They made it look like a complex mathematical algorithm, which made me skeptical.

I think I believe now.

It's really not that hard.

Serebii.net has all these formulas for everything and doesn't type in English very well.
Thanked by:
That's definitely true.

They're overcomplicated and don't seem to have fantastic English skills.

The RBY manual and Pokémon Stadium manuals both tell you that Pokémon you've trained yourself are stronger than Pokémon caught fresh - even at the same level - then show you two pokemon (IIRC Chansey) with 2 different sets of stats to prove it.

The reason why the trained 'mon is stronger is because of EVs. EVs aren't optional in that you can choose whether to use them or not. They're given to a Pokémon every time it gains EXP from a battle. People who utilise EVs make sure to kill specific Pokémon to get specific EVs. Othat note, very few people EV train during the course of the game, because you're forced to fight a wide range of Pokémon that all give different EVs. It'd be impossible to have a perfect build. You EV train after you've beaten the game, and have better control over who and what you fight.

Up until Emerald, EVs were irreversible. Once you got 'em, you had to keep them. It made it fustrating to have your starter Pokémon in metagame fights since they're guaranteed to have shitty EV builds. But now there are Berries that lower a given EV stat by 10 points (That's as much as a Carbos/Iron/etc gives you upon consumption), so issues like that can be repaired.

Jar isn't the only person who knows his pokémon. :V
Specs 'n' Headphones has been revamped! Check it, yo.

Thanks to Pik and Solink; they are sexy people. Heart

everyone who knows the gameplay well enough now knows EVs and how to control them via berries, vitamins, bands, macho brace, etc.

i didnt know about EVs until emerald, people just didnt know how to do it because the serebii page was confusing as shit for most folks.
Thanked by:
Iirc the first stat lowering berry you eat lowers it by 100 ev's

EDIT: Some of the equations they give you are necessary because thats how the game programmed it to work, they just explained it in a very crammed muddled way
