Something looks awfully wrong about the first guy's anatomy. His crotch area faces a different direction than his legs imply, one shoulder is much further from the neck than the other and one arm has the upper part appear quite longer than the lower part.

Yeah, I see what you mean, the croth should be facing a 3/4 direction. I just noticed the shoulders. There's something seriously wrong with my construction sketch, I'm paying to much attention to my reference and forgetting what I'm actually drawing. Thanks for pointing those things out previous.

A little bit more work done, I'm working on it in between freelance stuff, which is why I'm going so slowly on it.
If you have some tips on rendering the skin, they would be really appreciated. I'm having some trouble with the neck.

the (our) left eye is a little too high and offset to the left, move it down and right a little
given the angle of the nose, I think he is facing a little to (our) right, so the face needs to move over to the right a tad.
the far side of the glasses is larger than the close side; somewhat the same issue with the mouth

He looks... scary
his eyes look really weird because one is up there and the other down there and the glasses are bigger on one side then the other and the nose looks bend to the side.

This was just a rendering study and in that sense I accomplished what I wanted to do but since I messed up on anatomy, I'm going to scratch the whole image and try my hand at a new portrait. I'll be posting that sometime soon
Thanks all for your comments.

This time around I'm trying the same exercise but being a little more careful with the anatomy of the face and I'm also doing a self portrait, something I've never really done but wanted to try it out and you know what they say, no better time than now
Right now I'm just laying down stuff, were things should be placed and all that. Anything you might have to say before I start building up would be greatly appreciated.

I think I'm happy with the initial laydowns. Should I start refining? All I want in this initial stages is to get the placement right, once I start refining I'll fix up the forms and get them looking nice and proper

Something looks really weird with his mouth and chin maybe the mouth needs to be more upward and the chin tiled to the left? The eyes look really uneven
The eyes are both too low, and the eye to our left is way too close to the nose (compare the space between the right eyebrow (our left) and his hair with the photo)
