Nintendo 3DS

to be honest I am perfectly fine with a portable gamecube

i feel the original system was horribly under-utilized.

Hopefully this will give it a comeback.

DS was capable of graphics on par with N64. if not better.
But we got like 4 games that utilized that.
this is a sig

mario 64 ds and mario kart ds are like the only n64-level games and maybe the zelda games also

though I definitely don't want to see 2D games go away, I'd really like to see more fully-3d games on the 3DS (and I don't mean just using the 3D gimmick, I mean polygonal 3D) since they were highly under-utilized on the DS

though 2D games are always welcome

That's the point I was poorly trying to make. Cheers.

Some new information has surfaced, too. Supposedly it has a joystick and rumble now.
Posted earlier in the topic, but

Doesn't the DS already have a gyroscope and a rumble, just that they aren't used? I mean, that 3D DSi game requires a gyroscope, so, the DS obviously has that.

SM64DS had graphics better than the original game, iirc.

^The DSi game (I assume you're taking about Hidden Image) uses the cameras, not any sort of motion sensing feature, which the DS definitely didn't have. And why would that Metroid Pinball game come with a Rumble Pak if the DS already had a rumble feature?

The rumble pack wasn't used in nearly enough games. Sad It made PiT so much better.

After all my rumble pack did was make a load noise and no rumble I never used it again.
But no, no DS before this 3DS has had rumble.

Let's see:
Super Mario 64 DS
Mario Kart DS
Mario Party DS
Mario Hoops 3-on-3
DK Jungle Climber (cutscenes)
Diddy Kong Racing DS
Metroid Prime Hunters
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass/ Spirit Tracks
Star Fox Command

All those had N64 up quality graphics and I'm sure there are more.

Koopaul, did you notice something?

Those are all Nintendo games.

The point is that no company aside from Nintendo has really used the DS's graphics to its potential. Except those COD ports that Activision did.

Rayman 2, kinda. Had really awful textures...

And Mario Hoops was made by Square I believe.

Square also used the DS to its full-potential I think. Or at least they tried hard to do so.

asuming that 3D games are harder to develop than 2D games, time/cost wise, one can understand why so many people doesn't want to risk themselves with them.

in terms of DS development, of course.

Not really, all you need is one model for a character as opposed to a whole sprite sheet. It can really vary from being way cheaper and easier to wildly expensive and harder.

also goemar, there is a port of rayman 2 for the DS? I was not aware of this. I'll have to pick it up.
