I'm going to try and make all the basic platforming animations (jumping climbing running etc.)
For the life of me I can't design a character that's not boring to look at, so I'm just gonna make a base for myself, and when I do get an idea for a design I'll just fill it in.
But the real reason I'm posting this is because
I can't get the walking to look right. :/ Would someone be so kind as to tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Edit* Thank you Larwick
The arms aren't moving at the same pace as the legs.
When a leg is at the end of it's stride,
the arm on the other side should be at the end of it's stride.
(broken lines are the ones that aren't closest to us ie. his right)
(colour coded same as your outline)

Hmm, I took a closer look, and I actually got that part right, so I guess the problem is being able to tell which leg is which.
Does this help? I also made some edits

Whats messed up is how his upper body shifts up and down, yet his lower body doesn't.

This better?
Edit* Also, jumping.
If it were to be in a game it probably wouldn't animate like that.

Jumping looks great, but there's no Z-axis body movement in his running. He should slightly twist as he goes.

Thanks Delicious
I feel like the rest of my stuff doesn't have the same personality as the jump :/
Updated the walk so it fits more.
I need to learn to organize too, the folder for this one guy is a mess.
Edit* Oop, almost missed your post there Badassbill
Will do! But I think I might re-do the run entirely, I'm not sure yet.
Edit again* Better?

The walk looks like a jog.

That's hardly a problem, all things considered. If he's going to be jumping that high and with such energy; it would be odd if his walk cycle was a slow relaxed one.
However, I feel he's turned a bit too much toward the 'camera' during his walk cycle. That might not be the case once the shapes are all filled in, though.
Specs 'n' Headphones has been revamped! Check it, yo.
Thanks to Pik and Solink; they are sexy people.

Haha actually yes, the shape of the original sprite was inspired by that exact piece. One of my favorites of his.

would be cool to point that out, so it wouldn't sound like its traced/copied/etc.
you know, for the sake of giving a friendly nod to the source of inspiration.
It didn't look traced at all though, in fact I didn't even notice any sort of similarity until it was pointed out. I don't think it's a gigantic deal in this case. Obviously you want to give credit where credit is due, but it's not like he plagiarized either.

the ladder climbing animation is my least favourite, because the arms don't seem to stretch high enough.
