Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (Plus series synopsis in OP!) - Azure-Tranquility - 12-19-2011 Kingdom Hearts 3D is to be released soon in Japan. With that, here is what little information exists; Confirmed Worlds; HunchBack of Notre Dame Traverse Town Tron Legacy Three Musketeers(Mickey Mouse ver.) Fantasia Pinocchio Rumored Worlds(Not confirmed, but likely); The Jungle Book Sword And The Stone Sora & Riku will be playable. As the main gimmick, there are these creatures called "Dream Eaters" who can either be your friend or your enemy. Since it's the 10th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts, among other other 2002 series, I figure it'd be a good time to give a synopsis of the series' "story", so here; Starting with Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. Three Keyblade masters in training: Aqua, Ventus, and Terra. Their master is Eraqus, and there's also a Master Xehanort(Keep him in mind, he's important). The Three Keyblade masters are best friends; A trio, if you will. Ventus is all happy and optimistic, Aqua is more reserved, and Terra is headstrong. Birth By Sleep starts with the three undergoing a "Mark of Mastery", that when completed will elevate them to "Master" status ala Eraqus and Xehanort. The three finish, but only Aqua is promoted, though she won't do anything with the title until later. The three then travel to many disney worlds, including Castle of Dreams from Cinderella and the Dwarf Woods from Snow White. While the three are traveling to the disney worlds, Xehanort plots to create a "X-Blade" by fusing Ventus with his inner darkness, which he tried to do in the past, but Ventus was "unable" to use his darkness. To rectify this, Xehanort used his keyblade to extract Ventus' darkness and mold it into a being of its own named Vanitas. The creation of Vanitas is what created the creatures you fight called "Unverse". Vanitas crosses paths with Aqua and Ventus a few times during their travels. Terra, on the other hand, is often seen doing his own thing, questioning his inner darkness. In Enchanted Dominion, Terra meets Maleficent, who teaches him more about darkness. After some traveling, the trio reunite at Hollow Bastion to fight a huge Unverse creature. They also meet a mysterious hunter named Braig, who was hired by Xehanort to try and stop them from finding out Xehanort's plans. After some more Disney World traveling, the trio reunite at the Land of Departure. Terra ends up betraying Master Eraqus, and he(Eraqus) is killed. After this event, the trio head for the Keyblade Graveyard. Ventus fights Vanitas both on the outside and the inside. Ventus is victorious, but unfortunately the battle left his body unconcious and his heart damaged, so his heart finds solace in a young boy who lives on an island: Sora. Terra fights Master Xehanort, and wins. Despite victory, Xehanort takes over Terra's body using the "X-Blade", becoming Terra-Xehanort(Terranort for short). This new form is pretty much Terra with silver hair and yellow eyes. Terra's armor, which retained some of Terra's will, became the Lingering Will and challenges Terranort. The Lingering Will wins, forcing Terranort unconcious, but doesn't separate the two. Aqua ends up fighting Braig after discovering Ventus' unconcious body. In the "Final Episode", Aqua takes Ventus' unconcious body back to the Land of Departure. Using a magic only taught to "Masters", Aqua transforms the Land of Departure into Castle Oblivion. She hides Ventus' unconcious body in the Chamber of Waking, to keep it safe until his heart(In Sora's body) fully recovered. After this, Aqua heads to Hollow Bastion only to find Terranort, now confused and with no memories of either Terra or Xehanort. Aqua fights Terranort and forces him unconcious again. In an attempt to save Terra's entire being, she sacrifices both her keyblade and her armor, forcing her into the Realm of Darkness, where she remains... waiting for someone to save her. Terranort wakes up eventually, without memory, and becames an apprentice of Ansem The Wise, taking the name of the late Master Xehanort.. He also befriends his assistants: Dilan, Ienzo, Braig, Aeleus, and Even. Xehanort would go on to research the darkness and hearts. During an experiment, he finds out that when the darkness in people's hearts gets too dense, they become a dark being known as Heartless. Seeing this, he and the assistants began kidnapping people to conduct inhumane experiments, unbeknownst to Ansem at the time. While doing this, Xehanort wrote a report, stealing his master's name in the process, of the results of the inhumane experiments. Finding out about this eventually, Ansem forces a cease and desist on all further experiments, to which Xehanort and the assistants reluctantly obeyed... at first. After a while, Xehanort conducted more experiments, eventually creating a machine that could create artificial heartless. The difference between these and the purebred heartless is a "symbol" for the artificial heartless, but otherwise they function in much the same way. A while after, Xehanort discovers a door that leads to a dark realm where purebred heartless spawned at haphazard rates. The opening of this door destroys the "doors" between "worlds", which everyone saw as a meteor shower. Sometime after this, Mickey Mouse builds a Gummi Ship using the material from the "shooting stars", and uses it to travel to other worlds seeking an answer. In his travels he meets both Xehanort and Ansem the Wise, who he became friends with. Xehanort and the assistants continued to experiment with darkness and the heartless, which eventually resulted in their hearts being devoured. However, when a being of strong will loses their heart, their body is left behind to take on a new will of its own. While Xehanort and the assistants lost their hearts, their husks became new beings known as Nobodies, and they received new names: Xemnas(An anagram of Ansem with an X added), Xigbar(Braig), Xaldin(Dilan), Lexaeus(Aeleus), Zexion(Ienzo), and Vexen(Even). The six assistants then established Organization XIII. However, Xehanort's will was so strong that not only Xemnas was created, but his heartless took on a human form as well, choosing to name itself Ansem: Seeker of Darkness. This sets off the events of the first Kingdom Hearts, which takes place 10 years after Birth by Sleep. We meet Sora. The game starts out with Sora having a "dream". After completing the dream, Sora wakes up on Destiny Islands to Kairi and his best friend Riku. The trio have fun on the islands together with its denizens, until one faithful night when a mysterious dark vortex begins to eat up the island. Sora searches for his friends, and finds Riku about to be swallowed by darkness. In an attempt to save his friend, Sora is almost swallowed by darkness himself, until a ray of light saves him. The ray of light was the Keyblade. Using the Keyblade, Sora attempts to defend his home from the dark creatures(later found out to be the heartless), but fails. Sora is then dropped off in Traverse Town, which is made up of the remains of all the destroyed worlds. Donald and Goofy are sent by King Mickey to find a "key"(Sora), but are unable to find him at first. Sora is woken up by Pluto in an alleyway. After questioning the townsfolk, he is led to the third district where he bumps into Donald and Goofy. Together they take on the heartless, including the Guard Armor. After the fight, the three resolve to work together to both look for King Mickey and Sora's missing friends. As they travel throughout the worlds, Maleficent spies on them with the help of other famous Disney villains: Hades, Oogie Boogie, Ursula, Jafar, and Captain Hook. Together they plotted to steal Sora's keyblade as well as turn him into a heartless. After completing the Deep Jungle, Sora runs into Riku in Traverse Town. Elated to find one of the friends he was so desperately looking for, he asks of the whereabouts of Kairi, to which Riku is unable to answer. Sora introduces Riku to Donald and Goofy, but Riku isn't very friendly with them and leaves abruptly while Sora and Donald argued. Sora goes into the abandoned house to meet up with Leon, Aerith, Yuffie, and Cid to discuss their next plan of action, while Maleficent and Riku spy on them. Maleficent lies to Riku about Sora's intentions, turning Riku against Sora. When Sora and friends reach Neverland, they find Kairi in one of the ship's holds, unconcious. It seems that the heartless have stolen her heart, and Riku is trying to locate it without the aid of Sora. It is here that Sora notices Riku has changed. This is due to Riku letting his darkness take over, much like Terra ended up doing in the past. After Neverland, Sora and friends reach Hollow Bastion, where they run into Riku again, who reveals that the keyblade was meant to be his. He proceeds to take the keyblade from Sora and leaves him with a wooden sword. The Beast helps Sora get to the foyer of the castle, where Sora regains control of the Keyblade and the loyalty of his friends. Riku begins to transform into a new form and fights the trio, only to lose. Further into the castle, the trio run into Maleficent and do battle with her, only for her to lose as well. After her defeat, Maleficent runs into Riku, now possessed by Xehanort's heartless(Ansem), who decides to help Maleficent by boosting her darkness to a level where she is able to transform into a menacing dragon, which Sora and friends defeat once more. Further still, Sora and friends find the keyhole of Hollow Bastion, which can only be opened by the seven princesses of heart: Alice, Snow White, Jasmine, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, and Kairi. All but Kairi were present, but when Sora runs into a possessed Riku, he reveals that Kairi's heart resided within Sora, and to unlock the keyhole, Kairi's heart must be liberated. Sora and Riku fight one on one, where Sora is victorious once more. Despite this, Sora decides to use the keyblade of darkness to unlock his heart, which freed Kairi's heart as well. Doing this turned Sora into a heartless, and the process also created Sora's nobody: Roxas. Kairi, now revived, tries to escape the castle with the help of Donald and Goofy. Sora's heartless follows them until they reach the foyer once more. it is here that Kairi sees that the heartless is really Sora, and her love for him brings Sora back from the darkness. Sora and friends leave Hollow Bastion and return to Traverse Town, where they realize now that the Hollow Bastion keyhole is now unlocked, and it needs to be locked. However, to return to Hollow Bastion they must enter through the "back". After locating the necessary parts for their Gummi Ship, and with renewed confidence from Kairi, Sora and friends re-enter Hollow Bastion. Inside the keyhole they had to vanquish a Behemoth heartless before being able to finally lock the keyhole. After locking the keyhole, Sora and friends enter End of the World, the location of Xehanort's Heartless(Known to them as Ansem). Throughout their adventures they find scattered pieces of a report known as "Ansem's Report", which is actually the research notes fromw hen Xehanort first discovered the heartless and began conducting inhumane experiments on them. In End of the World, Sora and friends run into Ansem finally and have their final confrontation. They also find a massive door that leads into a realm where heartless spawn uncontrollably, which Ansem called "Kingdom Hearts". Sora concludes that Kingdom Hearts, being the king of all hearts, is made of both light and darkness. Thus, the light of Kingdom Hearts shines and eradicates Xehanort's Heartless. Sora finds Riku and Mickey behind Kingdom Hearts, but they refuse to leave. Unfortunately, Sora is forced to close the door on his friend and Mickey. After the events of Kingdom Hearts, Sora's nobody, Roxas, is found by Organization XIII's leader, who gives him his name and inducts him into the Organization proper. In the time of Kingdom Hearts I, Xemnas managed to recruit more members: Axel(Lea), Saix(Isa), Marluxia, Larxene, Luxord, and Demyx. Roxas begins to write a journal of his every day activity in the organization, and he begins to develop a friendship with Axel. After a few missions for the organization, Axel is assigned to a job at Castle Obvlision alongside Marluxia, Larxene, Vexen, Zexion, and Lexaeus. Roxas continues work for the organization, while Sora, Donald, and Goofy receive a letter addressed from the king. The letter leads them to a road where a hooded figure guides them to a place called Castle Oblivion, where Organization XIII had taken shop. This is all a plan for Marluxia, a neophyte, to try and take Organization XIII from Xemnas. Axel catches on to his plans, but doesn't act until later on. The plan is to use Namine, a special nobody who was created at the same time as Roxas and is the nobody of Kairi while her heart was stuck in Sora's body, to alter the memories of Sora to turn him into a puppet to fight against Xemnas. As Sora and friends ascend the Castle, Riku & Mickey ascend from the bottom of the castle's basement, vanquishing Lexaeus and Zexion along the way. As Sora and friends continued to ascend, they began to lose their memories, while fighting against Larxene and Axel. Eventually, Sora vanquishes Larxene, while Axel went on to vanquish Vexen, leaving Marluxia to deal with the very puppet he was trying to create. Sora eventually vanquishes Marluxia and meets with Namine, who he was led to believe was his friend instead of Kairi. Namine offers to repair Sora's memories, but it will take a while. Riku locates Sora, and offers his assistance for Sora's recovery, but first has to deal with his inner darkness. After achieving balance, Riku continues to help both Namine and an enigmatic man known as DiZ. After finishing his work at Castle Oblivion, Axel returns to the Organization XIII's base, where Roxas is happy to meet his friend again. Roxas introduces the newest member of the Organization to Axel, Xion. Xion was created from Sora's memories, and as such takes the form of various people, with her main form being that of Kairi with black hair, as Kairi was Sora's strongest memory. Xigbar sees her as Ventus, while Xemnas sees her as Sora. Saix merely sees her as a hooded doll, however. After completing more work for the organization, Roxas notices strange behavior changes in Xion. This is due to Sora recovering his memories, though the recovery is hindered by both Roxas' and Xion's existence. It is eventually revealed that Xion is an imperfect replica of Roxas that was created should Sora end up not being useful to the Organization. Roxas leaves the Organization to find the answers to the questions he has concerning both Xion and Sora. Xion is "repogrammed" by Xemnas to absorb Roxas. Roxas and Xion cross paths and do battle, only for Xion to lose and re-enters Roxas, halting the recovery of Sora's memories. By absorbing Xion, Roxas gains the ability to use two keyblades at once. After this, Roxas encounters Riku and fights him. Riku, on the verge of defeat, uses his darkness to increase his power, changing his appearance into that of Xehanort's heartless. With his newfound power, Riku manages to subdue Roxas and bring him to DiZ, who places him into a "digital" Twilight Town, setting the events for Kingdom Hearts II. After a few days of what seems like his life, Roxas realizes that his reality was false. He enters the basement of the Twilight Town mansion, where he encounters his friend Axel, who wants Roxas to remember who he is. Roxas, not wanting anyone to stand in his way, fights Axel while dual wielding two keyblades. Roxas is victorious. In the basement he sees Donald and Goofy sleeping in pods, and further in he finds Sora in a pod as well. Prior to this, Namine reveals to Roxas that he is a nobody, specifically the nobody of Sora, and that for Sora to fully recover, Roxas must reunite with Sora. Roxas agrees to do so, which sets off Sora's journey in Kingdom Hearts II. After waking up from his recovery, Sora and friends decide to read Jiminy's journal, only to find it's been erased completely save for one message: "Thank Namine". Sora and friends have no memory of the events of Chain of Memories. The trio decide to explore Twilight Town, only to be ambushed by nobodies at the train station. A cloaked figure(King Mickey) drops in to save them, and gives Sora a pouch before leaving once more. Sora and the gang use the train to travel to Yen Sid's tower, where they run into Pete, who can summon heartless for some reason. They defeat the heartless outside and within the tower, with Donald commenting on them having to fight more heartless. Once they reach the top, they meet Yen Sid, who informs them that whole they greatly reduced the number of heartless, as long as there is darkness in every heart, the heartless will still exist. Yen Sid goes on to explain about the Nobodies as well as the Organization. Sora's new mission is to continue looking for Kairi and Riku, while also vanquishing heartless, and defeat the Organization. Sora received new clothing, as well as a new Gummi Ship for travel. In order to access the worlds now, Sora must bypass the barriers between worlds using the Gummi Ship. Sora and friends start off by heading to Hollow Bastion, where they reunite with Leon and the others. After fighting off an ambush of Nobodies, Sora encounters the Organization proper, though their individual identities are unknown at this point. After traveling to many worlds, Sora and the gang reunite at Hollow Bastion once more. This time they have to fend of an impending army of heartless, known as the Battle of 1000 Heartless. During the course of this war, Sora and friends defeat Demyx, who they had previously met in the underworld of Olympus Coliseum, and fend off more than 1000 heartless, all while the likes of Leon, Cloud, Yuffie, newcomer Tifa, and King Mickey provide assistance. During the aftermath, Sora and friends finally discovery Xemnas, the leader of Organization XIII, and Xehanort's Nobody. Xemnas reveals his ultimate plan: To create a new Kingdom Hearts. Along the way Sora is intercepted by Saix, who aims to prevent Sora from entering the Organization's world, but Maleficent of all people comes in to save the day. Sora and friends escape Hollow Bastion and return to the worlds they visited previously, only to find that some have been invaded by the Organization. In Beasts's Castle, Xaldin has taken full initiative to claiming the Beasts's heart so that he can claim his nobody, but Sora and friends put an end to his ways before long. Afterwards, Sora and friends run into Xigbar in the Land of Dragons, and Luxord in Port Royal. Eventually they find out that to get to the Organization's world, they must enter it through the Inbetween Realm, which is accessable via Twilight Town's basement. The gang enter the basement, and find the portal, only to be intercepted by nobodies. Axel drops in to lend a hand, but is heavily damaged during the fight. As his last will, Axel reveals the location of Kairi, and opens the portal to The World That Never Was, where the remaining Organization XIII members lay in wait for Sora. In The World That Never Was, Sora is blindsided by his nobody, who wants revenge for the death of his friend Axel. The two fight, only for Sora to emerge victorious. Roxas is at peace as he realizes Sora didn't murder Axel. Moving on, the gang enter the actual base of the Organization. In it, they reunite with both Kairi and Riku, meet up with Ansem the Wise, and vanquish Xigbar, Saix, and Luxord, leaving just Xemnas. After Ansem attempts to "digitize" Kingdom Hearts, his machine explodes in a brilliant flash of light, which cleanses Riku of his looking like Xehanort's heartless. Returned to normal, Riku and Sora confront Xemnas and finally vanquish him, thus completely removing the Organization. Afterwards, Sora Riku & Kairi return to Destiny Islands. However, after decoding Jiminy's journal in Kingdom Hearts re:coded, King Mickey and Yen Sid have a discussion, where the location of Ventus' heart and Aqua are known, but Yen Sid dears that Xehanort may return, as when the heartless and nobody of any one being is vanquished, their whole being returns. In the latest trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3D, we see that Axel has regained his real body: "Lea", and Xehanort has returned in his younger form. Sora and Riku are about to take their "Mark of Mastery" exam, before finally vanquishing Xehanort in Kingdom Hearts III, thus concluding what Tetsuya Nomura calls the "Xehanort Saga" Alright, if there are any details you guys aren't sure on, quote them and I'll try to explain, but that was A'LOT to type, so if I miss any little details, don't rag on me for it. RE: Kingdom Hearts series discussion thread - Zac - 12-19-2011 4:50-5:05 so much nostalgia to be honest though 3D looks likes the best game in the series so far I like how it pretty much ignores 2 also subbed RE: Kingdom Hearts series discussion thread - DioShiba - 12-19-2011 so wait, are they implementing practically everything from TWEWY into this game? because if that's the case they might as well call this a pseudo sequel to that game. RE: Kingdom Hearts series discussion thread - Sol - 12-19-2011 This is looking really great, I'll probably have to pick up a 3DS when this comes out. Seeing the Grid got me pretty excited, not going to lie. Also really glad to see the rest of the TWEWY cast. I'm wondering if they're excluding Final Fantasy characters completely this time around, I don't think I saw any in the trailer...? That's kind of jumping the gun, just because it's got TWEWY characters doesn't make it a sequel. I don't really see any good reason to call it that. It's called "pesudeo" as it's the closest thing to a TWEWY game a fan's gonna get. Plus the Square side after being closed off to FF for this long it's nice they are actually branching out. Final Fantasy characters will still appear though, someone's gonna keep those shops open, kupo! Makes sense, especially if they're planning to make a TWEWY2 for 3DS. 2+2=4 RE: Kingdom Hearts series discussion thread - Dazz - 12-20-2011 I seriously hope they realise how stupid they were and release this on a good console. RE: Kingdom Hearts series discussion thread - Gwen - 12-20-2011 What. Please tell me we're still not going on about the 3ds being a bad system. It continues to prove what a fantastic system it is and the lineup is becoming very solid. RE: Kingdom Hearts series discussion thread - Dazz - 12-20-2011 Yeah, but I don't plan to buy one for one game. I am very tempted since I'm a massive KH fan, but even so, until it has a good backlog I don't plan to go anywhere near it. RE: Kingdom Hearts series discussion thread - water dog - 12-20-2011 Someone explain the plot to Kingdom Hearts to me. Just kidding, you can't. RE: Kingdom Hearts series discussion thread - Rosencrantz - 12-20-2011 d did you copy and paste that? Please tell me you did :c on-topic, Kingdom Hearts is one of those guilty pleasures of mine I finished 385/2 six months ago, didn't bother getting Birth by Sleep or Coded. I might want to get on top of those games at some point, though!! RE: Kingdom Hearts series discussion thread - TomGuycott - 12-20-2011 I seriously haven't been interested in any other Kingdom Hearts games (primarily because many came out on systems I didn't own) because of two reasons: 1. The questions that arose from the first game (which were essentially ALL caused by the secret ending movie) were barely answered and only more questions arose from them. 2. They promised NOT to do a Final Mix version of the second one but they ended up doing it anyway. But suddenly I'm feeling a mild renewal of interest in the game.. listening to the orchestrated main theme always seems to do that to me.
