"Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - Kendotlibero - 02-21-2017 Everyone has played a game, loved it, but nobody knows anyhting about it. Mine is "Spica Adventure", modern arcade game. It's a cute and colourful platform that plays a lot like Umihara Kawase, you have a little umbrella that gives you a lot of mobility. You can use it like the Showel knight's showel, like a parachadute and lots more. here's a gameplay: What's your obscure game? RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - Cloud6625 - 02-21-2017 Valdis Story Abyssal City and Momodora Reverie Under The Moonlight are two excellent Metroidvania games that I hold in high regards. Whenever discussion comes up people mention games like Dust An Elysian Tale, Guacamelee, Ori and The Blind Forest, etc, but never these two games which I consider just as good. RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - Lexou Duck - 02-22-2017 Star Ocean: Blue Sphere for the GBC It was only released in japan, and there isn't an english patch for the game, but there is a complete (and impressive) french translation patch so i played through the game with that and lemme tell you, if i had had this on my hands as a kid back then, i wouldve gone crazy over this - a really good rpg with the most amazing gameboy color pixelart, an actual realtime battle system with combos, plenty of characters etc just look at these graphics RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - Dolphman - 02-22-2017 The creator later remade all the graphics in 1995 for an Elite Edition. He still sells them on his website. RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - Raccoon Sam - 02-22-2017 Tons of Mac OS 7-9 shareware I remember the game shown above called Grunt being a decent platformer. Nobody remembers it except me. Also Blobbo. A fun puzzle game, but forgotten by all. My cousin remembers it though because we played it a lot as kids. Honourable mentions: Munchies!, Squish, Slippy, everything from McSebi Software and the Foxchange puzzle games, Squirrel Combat. I don't know the state of emulation these days so I have no clue what's the best method to replay these ultra obscure gems from the past. Oh well. It appears to only emulate the 680 architecture though, but I guess there's a PPC one out there too. RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - sammyrms1 - 02-22-2017 Octomania. There's also an arcade version of this game. RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - miyabi95_ - 02-22-2017 i love a lot of old arcade games. naming them in order thanks to TSR. lol: my knowledge of these games is proof that i had way too much time last year. ...and this is AT LEAST 10% of the obscure games i've played. RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - Goemar - 02-23-2017 Does DoDonPachi count as obscure? My god... that's like a game you have to play (and 1cc) to call yourself a gamer if you ask me. Sadly I find Catherine seems to count as obscure and that game is just utter brilliance. As for obscure games that are not completely unheard of (I play a lot of Japanese only or really old games) I'd say Red Star on the PS2. Like a mix of a hack n slash and a shmup based off a comic that also no one read (why a game was made of it I do not know) but it was utterly amazing... RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - miyabi95_ - 02-23-2017 well i guess your definition of obscure is a bit different from mine. like if i'm hanging out with a group of people IRL and bring up a game, and they don't recognize it, that's obscure to me. but of course you can google a game like dodonpachi and find a billion perfect 1cc runs. same goes for anime and other things. i just like too many obscure things but it's really fun to just dig for them. RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - Goemar - 02-23-2017 *except Death Smiles 2... kinda sucks... Oh, and the Goemon games (Goemon + Mario = Goemar, fun story). Like, the first N64 one got a bit of attention but man like Ganbare Goemon 2 and 3 on the SNES are just fantastic! Wish someone would translate the third one... RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - miyabi95_ - 02-23-2017 it's a shame ganbare goemon 2-4 never got localized. i'm sure many 90s kids had a copy of mystical ninja for snes. but that's for another thread lol. i think most fighting game ppl tend to overlook real bout fatal fury tbh. it's really great in terms of both technical fighting system and aesthetic. the roster of chars is so well-balanced, so it's a perfect competitive fighter in my opinion. RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - puggsoy - 02-23-2017 ahem Puggsy (puggsoy = Puggsy + a random O, fun story). Best game ever. Well, maybe not, but it was one of the most unique games of my childhood and is my usernamesake. Looking for Puggsy sprites was also how I discovered TSR It's an old Mega Drive game where you're basically you're a weird alien dude and you have to utilize items to complete levels. At the time the physics system (called Total Object Interaction, apparently) was pretty unique, and you can interact with items in a number of ways. You can pick them up, stack them on top of each other, use them to pull yourself up ledges, and throw them. Some you can also activate (like guns or balloons). Obviously it didn't take off, proven by the fact that they promised a sequel that never came out I've met just about nobody else, online or otherwise, who has heard of the game, so I'm pretty sure that counts as obscure. I do wish more people would give it a shot though, I've never seen another game like it. The music is also top-notch (although that could just be nostalgia). RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - Goemar - 02-23-2017 I think Puggsy's main issue was, well, Puggsy - he looked, well... rather lame... RE: "Why am I the only one that played this game?" - Obscure games thread - puggsoy - 02-23-2017 I won't lie - that's definitely an issue. I love him but just by association of the game. It was marketed as a family game so I think he's supposed to look goofy, but it looks like it wasn't done right. It's a shame because it repels a lot of people before they even get a chance to experience the gameplay, which is extremely solid and interesting. I would encourage people to play it if they can get past Puggsy's appearance. |
