I kinda stayed out of this but I will say this, I think people making money doing Let's Plays is dumb. In the past LPs were just something done for fun. I don't even like Let's Plays, half the time I get pissed off at them because I just want some footage of the game without some obnoxious voice talking over it.
Ahem anyway. I don't see how this is a "dick move" if Nintendo is still letting you do LPs. Hey you want money from Youtube? Why not come up with your own original content instead of doing something that relies on other people's works.

I've heard about this from a friend, and I've heard opinions ranging from "OMG NINTENDOS STAELIN THAR VIDSN MAKIN MONEY" to "I think it's a great idea!". Reminds me of PETA/SOPA...DX Personally, I'm surprised Nintendo isn't suing the pants off of them for not asking for royalties. This is probably the best case scenario, and I kind of see it as Nintendo's little peaceful protest against the internet's ongoing rise in emulation, and the fact that people (including myself) really just watch LPs when they're not interested in the game enough to buy it themselves...I'd do it, knowing I'd be leeching off of the ignorant 2% of the internet that doesn't know of AdBlocker's existence. ;P

I do not want to go on another argument on why adblock is terrible for everyone.
(And most of LP footage is caught with capture cards on their actual hardware, what's this nonsense about emulation?)

Sure, they're charging the user's time by making them view ads, but they're not effectively taking any money off their public, money that can be very well spent on the Nintendo product they're talking about right there. They're not forwarding ANY spending money to them, just rather using the Youtube ad revenue system which allows them to make a profit, make a living off their hard work (which I would think everyone would agree that it's very good). Nintendo IS in their right to do this, but so are the LPers of just not making any Nintendo-based video anymore, and just giving off free publicity to other companies which are okay with this practice. The main point of NOT supporting Nintendo in this action is so that other companies don't follow this anti-consumer example (and so that they may open their eyes to what they're doing). LPs DID start off as done for fun and with no money involved, and it would pretty much stay that way if Youtube didn't have their ad revenue system. Veteran LPers did find it bad that people were profiting over their videos, but as time went on, as nobody's effectively losing money and it does add a bit of income to their lives, they followed the trend. Like I've been saying, I think it's pefrectly fair if they got SOME of the money for their commentary which people enjoy. LPs have a long story by now, it's kinda late for Nintendo to want to change the rules of a game that's been already set. If Ad Revenue for them is invalidated, then, well, there'll be a huge decline of these types of video on the internet, being closed off to a niche group (like it was before) and potentially making people less aware of games they could know about. It's not like LPers have to work for free, they'll just stop producing, and basically everyone will lose in this process.

Money is money. No matter where tey come from, it is making money, it belongs to nintendo
If LPers are complaining about it, they could always do non Nintendo LPs. The world isnt over just because a company did something rightful for them

That's really conformist. You say this mostly because it's not related to you or to what you enjoy in any way. But alright, with that little of a response I guess this discussion is (gladly) over.

i just chose the "little" response because it wouldnt matter the length of the post, anyway.
at this rate we were just going on circles. all my points and thoughts are scattered around the thread. its obvious that we have very solid thoughts about this specific situation and that it isnt going to end soon.
i still dont see how following the copyright law is so conformist and selfish though. i end my discussion here.

Not that, I meant that to what you said about it "not being the end of the world", as this does affect these people (but not you).
Also, if we were to follow the law, this very site could be rightfully taken down (even if TSR is not charging anyone anything, it exposes assets from games, made by artists which can be used as base or traced to make commercial works). But nobody wants that, and if that were to happen, it would be a dick move by whatever company did it.
