You're not really shading it as much as you are outlining bumpy areas. And the head looks nothing like I remember Vector Man. And I'm positive the joints were circles, not squares. Eh, I've done better. I tried to emulate the story sequences/title screen of Vectorman 2 (with mixing in the sprites), I guess that shows I'm still not comfortable to the Smash Bros style yet. I wish. Aside from that, this is a pallete under construction, or a scrap sprite, eh. Background Crit - Gaia - 02-11-2010 As soon I started the BG scene I noticed my various sprites seem to vary in quality. I'd like opinions on how to make this look better and more like a forest that doesn't look like it came from a beatemup on the Turbographix 16. RE: Background Crit - Alex - 02-11-2010 Try to give the trees some texture, not just a gradient. Also, make them look more like trees, not just cylinders that are coming from the ground. Make them more irregular, and slope towards the bottom a bit more. Give them some more branches and such. Make the leaves not just a rectangular area on top of the trees. The key is making it look more irregular, like nature. Hope this helps. RE: Background Crit - Jovian-12 - 02-11-2010 not to mention, make different kinds of trees. they could still be the same type, but at least draw them a little differently so it's not just that one same tree over and over again. then you can move on to more background stuff...right now the very back looks rather dull, since, well, it's just black with strangely thin tree-poles. I'd suggest looking at pictures inside dense forests and judge what you should put there to make it look better. don't clutter it too much but make it look like it's alive, that stuff's growing there. Gaia Has Stuff. - Gaia - 02-22-2010 Just a random kettle, yep. Any comments? RE: I need to get on moar. - Cobalt Blue - 02-22-2010 what could one say of a random kettle? not much, i'd guarantee you that. RE: I need to get on moar. - Codestar - 02-22-2010 yep. that's a kettle. RE: I need to get on moar. - Helmo - 02-22-2010 It's tiny and obviously a kettle, good job. RE: I need to get on moar. - Gaia - 02-22-2010 Now a random dino head, funny story, this was made using the MS-Paint default pallete on Windows Vista. RE: I need to get on moar. - Gors - 02-22-2010 Vista default palette>XP default palette anyway the mouth looks painted to the head, make it more 3D also contrast and use selout wisely RE: I need to get on moar. - Cobalt Blue - 02-22-2010 dont use selour, ignore the brazilian guy. selout has nothing to do with anything RE: I need to get on moar. - Gaia - 02-22-2010 Eh, I'll fix the mouth next time I'm online, plus sel-out's not one of my strongpoints anyway. RE: I need to get on moar. - Gaia - 02-23-2010 Animation testing here. RE: Gaia Has Stuff. - Gaia - 02-27-2010 Gotten tired of using SPA in sprite comics I want to try something out before doing a sprite project. The style should be obvious, I've been working with it for a couple of years now. Hint: The sprite came from Sprite's Inc, and it's themed. Any opinions? |
