Remake FFVI with the battle system of FFX and the visuals of FFXIII and you pretty much got my dream Final Fantasy.

try an FFMMO in Ivalice

with Magitek.
ffxiv is actually supposed to have somehting magitek-esque in it and everyone gets one (or eventually gets one)

Just sayin'.

^Pretty much. Once you get all the characters, they pretty much stop developing at all and have hardly any personality, and the bosses in the dungeons are all annoying to fight because they love status effects so much.

I don't see what's wrong with X, other than some of the characters being annoying (Laughing scene?). I'd say that's the last great single-player FF (haven't played any of the MMOs). FF XIII wasn't bad, but it lacked an RPG feel for most of the game. The battle system, though was a step in the right direction compared to 12, and I hope they improve on it for future FFs (like atleast adding gambits or being able to change party members). I'd forgive them for the linearity of most of the game just because it works with how the story is, and I'm sure they were primarily working on getting their engine to work for future games.

Pretty much FF4-FF10 are all pretty good, and FF13 is fun for what it is.

that's because nothing is wrong with X aside from annoying characters

Wasn't FFXIII's whole battle system based on switching battle styles (paradigm shifts)? Gambits would have punched that in the crotch. And you can switch party members, when all the characters finally meet up.

just saiyen

RE: RPG Discussion (Formerly; Earthbound or Chrono Trigger?) - Alex - 08-06-2010

By switching party members, I meant being able to change who you can control mid-combat, so if your medic is being an asshole and healing the wrong person, you can switch to them and get them to heal the people you want. (though you can switch paradigms to make the character you're controlling into a medic, it would be nice to have the option to switch characters as well).

You could have gambits for each class, to get them to do what you want when they're that class. No idea if it would even work, but I'm just throwing shit out there, so your AI people can do the kind of stuff you want them to do (even if they're already pretty good at doing what you want already).

The battle system is pretty sick already, though, so it would be nice if they just keep improving that one in the coming couple games, rather than throwing everything out and starting over.

oh ok Shy guess it didnt really bother me because i just play as hope and have my 2 bitches by my side do everything else (lightning and vanille)

RE: RPG Discussion (Formerly; Earthbound or Chrono Trigger?) - Alex - 08-06-2010

Yeah, I played as Fang, and since she didn't have medic capabilities, when Hope was healing the wrong people I went into rage mode. xD

RE: RPG Discussion (Formerly; Earthbound or Chrono Trigger?) - Marth - 08-06-2010

Uhm, don't all FFXIII characters gain acces to ever ability? When you beat Barthandelus and get on the fifth ark? I duno I only just got that part now and beat the first boss in it. The game claimed all characters could access all abilities/roles. I never really bothered checking because I don't update crystariums until I get to a boss fight and get my ass handed to me.

Great game though, I'm enjoying it so far, and I'm only 20 hrs. in, I got like what another 30-40?

RE: RPG Discussion (Formerly; Earthbound or Chrono Trigger?) - Alex - 08-06-2010

Yeah, they do gain access to all the roles, but it takes significantly more CP to get the skills in those roles, which makes it not really worth investing in unless you have extra points. Also, they don't get as many of the useful spells as people who have that class as one of their primary 3.

IIRC Chapter 11 takes awhile to do with all the missions and because of the fact that the game finally opens up then, so I'm pretty sure you have 20-30 more hours left in the main plot.

Khimari Mad!

But yeah the only character I even liked from X was between Yuna and Riku.

Not Auron? Or Jecht? Lulu's cool too; even without the blatant fanservice.

RE: RPG Discussion (Formerly; Earthbound or Chrono Trigger?) - SKELTON S. SKELETON - 08-07-2010

ff12 actually has the best characterization and plot line in the whole series, you're just too vapid to pick up on it.
