RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - SchAlternate - 02-25-2014 I don't mean to steal WaddleDooFan77's thunder (?), but... I hate that damned eye. RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - E-Man - 02-25-2014 I didn't mention this from before, but I was slightly hoping I could do the Kracko sprite due to a history I had with the character; however I don't think it would work out anyway because I have my doubts I would accurately stick to the style. Anyway, I'm glad that you created the sprite for yourself, SchAlternate. Not only does it bear a good resemblance to an official sprite, but you also made the spikes not ave any stripes on them. Not to offend Waddle Doo Fan in any way, but Kracko looks a lot better without the stripes (unless he's in his Kracko's Revenge form). RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - WaddleDooFan77 - 02-25-2014 I worked pretty hard on this, and took time off doing other things for it, so it kinda hurts that none of my sprites were accepted...particularly Chuckie. Oh, well... Could someone at least tell me how to improve on them so they can be used in this project? I'm guessing you've already read the "create a character" thing. If that didn't help, try the spriting dictionary. I kinda was asking for specifics... Have a look at Chuckie on the previous page and tell me exactly why he doesn't fit in, please. (getting desperate) BTW, here is some Superspicy Curry. I hope at least this gets accepted... RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - Paladin - 02-25-2014 (02-25-2014, 12:11 PM)WaddleDooFan77 Wrote: I kinda was asking for specifics... (getting desperate) Some things I can think of are no outlines (and therefore no selout) and shading that just looks like banding. Try studying the other sprites for correct shading. Also, you should use some AA on things like eyes. Hope this helps. You know what, to make your life easier, I'll update the reference sheet to show you what enemies and items we already have. You can try anything that doesn't have an updated sprite next to it. RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - Speed-X - 02-25-2014 Waddledoo fan: We, or at the very least I, understand that you are doing your best and are working very hard on your entries, which I can greatly respect. You dont seem to be one to be deterred or discouraged very easily. Dont lose hope! Maybe start with something simple such as the apple, or perhaps the EX version of Booler? Additionally, you dont appear to be using the colors in rhe palette. Heres a tip: if youre not used to limited palettes, try just making them in your own conjured colors, first. Once finished you can see which colors from the official palette work best for what shade / color. Sometimes you have to get really creative! Given how hard you have been trying, Im sure that if you called dibs on a certain sprite to do and show that you are making progress, act upon critiques, and etc; people here will respect that. However, gotta start with something small. :> RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - WaddleDooFan77 - 02-25-2014 O.K., that really helps! I think I'll start on Flapper and Mumbies. I will use the pallettes you included. Also, we will eventually need full animation frames for every character, can I begin work on those? RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - Speed-X - 02-25-2014 That's the spirit! As for the animation frames, I'd say those could be done at a later time. It really depends on your pace of doing things, to be honest. Id work on the initial sprite, first, if I were you, post it, and see how it can be improved upon. Then you can use that as a base or guide of some sorts. RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - WaddleDooFan77 - 02-25-2014 (smiles) Here is what I have of Flapper so far. Is this the correct style? Awright! Here is my final Flapper. I followed the original artwork. Will this be accepted? (sympathy face) RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - Speed-X - 02-25-2014 Make sure that the sprite has outlines; the style we're going for here is a simplistic and cartoony one, therefore line art is much more apparent. Secondly, its ears look a bit too Furby-ish. Flappers ears tilt more inwards and should be a little more atop the head. Another thing: in the tutorial, recolorme mentions that it's a good idea to start out with a perfect, symmetrical circle. Try going off of this circle here. It should have the ideal dimensions for the sprite's size, plus Flapper is pretty round anyways. If that shall be your final image, also make sure that you convert it to have colors in this palette: Edit: on second thought, Flapper should probably be a pretty petite bat due to its wingspan taking up most of its size. So probably not a good idea to use the 17x17 circle as a base...sorry about that. -------------------------- Since there really is no good reason to make a new post with this, I'll just post it here: Squishy. Or, at least, progress of it. RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - WaddleDooFan77 - 02-25-2014 OK. I have to go now, and I won't be back on until tomorrow (sorry), but I'll take the tips! I hope others will find ways to make this better. Bye for now! RE: Kirby's Dream Land Remake Project [open to anyone] - WaddleDooFan77 - 02-26-2014 I'm back! Here is the complete Flapper. I fixed the ears, and changed the palette to the correct one. I guess this one is complete! I will later add the animation and damage sprites. BTW, nice Squishy! Also, here is a little poem I made up as I was creating sprites. I hope you like it! |
