RE: "Other Systems" Ripping Project - Shade - 11-01-2018

Hey, yeah the increasing number of consoles showing up on the master console list began to really crowd up the section so it was decided to increase the maximum number of games necessary to "promote" them to the main list to keep things more orderly.

Understandably, that turns out to be somewhat of a bummer for this ripping project but we feel it's aesthetically a lot better this way. The actual purpose of this project is still pretty cool and all systems should get some love so don't let it discourage too much.

Welp, back to square 1, it looks like. At least a difference of 10 games isn't much but if I had to be honest it is a bummer seeing these consoles returned to Other Systems- especially since it defeats the purpose of the project once there's too many systems that the list gets cluttered.

Then again it's good that these lesser systems still got time in the spotlight.

Uh, why was the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum bumped down if they have the required amount of games? And why was the 360 bumped up if it doesn't?

RE: "Other Systems" Ripping Project - shadowman44 - 11-01-2018

Maybe they're consoles that have more "relevancy" or something?

That seems kind of odd because the ZX Spectrum was absolutely popular in the 80's in Europe, but not in the United States or Japan.

RE: "Other Systems" Ripping Project - Superjustinbros - 11-01-2018

Yes- The list has now changed so the top 25 most popular consoles by viewcount are the ones displayed as main consoles.

Something else had also changed as part of this system, and it's something you guys might like- If an Other System gets 15 games total, it gets a full page alike the main systems. Anything under and it puts all the games onto one page.

This may be false, but I'm assuming the ZX Spectrum (and the Amstrad CPC) wouldn't be in the main list under this new rule because the demand for sprites from those systems is very low. Plus, most "Other Systems" were only popular in one or two countries while something like Nintendo, Sega, and Sony's systems were available worldwide.

Can I give a suggestion? Drop the whole "Other Systems" entirely, and separate the systems into consoles-handhelds-computers, with the consoles tab open by default.

Maybe also "Mobile" and "Arcade" tabs with different boards/firmware (CPS1, Neo-Geo, etc) available like Systems? Or just an "Other" tab for them and the Customs? I also suggest perhaps searching by bitrate, for those who want a specific era of pixel-art.

RE: "Other Systems" Ripping Project - shadowman44 - 11-05-2018

We can still do the "get a system to 25 games" thing because if you notice, the ones that have more than 25 have a "stats" page despite being in "other systems".
That could be a possible change of goal, no?

RE: "Other Systems" Ripping Project - Superjustinbros - 11-05-2018

That’s an idea.
Even just to 15 games would work; since because of this new system the PC98, for example, got a proper section with stats.

RE: "Other Systems" Ripping Project - Magma MK-II - 11-06-2018

Still a bummer though, since it more or less made the entire objective of this project pointless.

There is this android game called Dead Ahead: Zombie Warfare.

The Sprite work is amazing. I would love to rip the sprites to use them in an Openbor Game project.

I don't even know where to begin ripping from an android game.

I could use some help.

There are some of the sprites from that game but they are not the original size. I have attached them for your viewing.

I would be so happy if anyone could help me with this.

This isn’t the place to discuss ripping assistance, what you’re trying to ask for would be better off in
Feedback / Showreel as it has nothing to do with this project.

Or better yet: Ripping Help : >

RE: "Other Systems" Ripping Project - shadowman44 - 03-02-2019

So, some time has passed.
The progress report should definitely be updated, systems that have 25 or more games should be marked "COMPLETE", because our goal should be to focus on making the console have a proper alphabetical list.
Also I had this thought of possibly doing the same idea but with the Sounds Resource, since it also has an "Other Systems" page too.

RE: "Other Systems" Ripping Project - shadowman44 - 01-23-2020

Super bump!
2 months shy of a year, let's see how that list is.

That's quite an improvement, but I bet we can still do better this year. Who's with me??
