I meant as in 'gravity and physics' improving, but I guess he wouldn't be able to make it look right without the in-style sprites.

I've already tried to program the physics with the old graphics. But the problem is that MOST of the work goes into putting the graphics into the game and animating the characters.
That's why I'm working on a (very early beta version) character designer to stall until a character is finished.

I don't know if this is of any interest, but I have a pretty good open ended smash engine already made. You can pretty much just stick in new characters at this point. I posted it in the Game Development section here.
