I found a shiny Roselia and a shiny Rattata, not counting the Red Gyarados.
Oh and a shiny Hoothoot back in Silver, that I still have.
To say nothing of shinies I've bred, but they're from RNG abuse so I don't know how legit you'd count them since while I'm doing nothing to edit the game itself, I'm tinkering with a program that helps me track them down.

I remember when I didn't know about shinies and my friend mentioned that there was a such thing as a purple Rapidash. I was playing Crystal at the time and was training my Pokemon just outside the cave where you fight Red. I had just got through saying how I thought there was no way there was a purple Rapidash when HOLY SHIT SPEAK OF THE DEVIL A PURPLE RAPIDASH! I got it down to low yellow HP and almost got it to red so I could catch it, but I got a critical hit.
I was pissed at the time, but still its hilarious in retrospect how perfect that was.

I one time got a shiny hypno from a freind of mine and found a shiny wurmple (that I never caught) in my sapphire game before I sold my GBA games. Another thing that nintendo does enjoy to troll us with is the fact the some trainers in battle tower in FR/LG will have shiny pokemon.

My only ever shiny was a Clefairy in Diamond in Mt. Coronet. Caught it, then escaped roped so I could go see it in my box. I saved and turned off to make sure it saved right, and the data was corrupt and it sent me back to my last save point.

Having the Random Number Generator smile on you is hardly admirable or skillful. It just requires a lot of patience and free time.
You wouldn't say that someone who played the lottery every week eventually getting a payoff as 'admirable'.
