The dragon actually has some pretty great names, if you get the origin.

RE: What Would You Have Named It? - Ark Kuvis - 02-06-2011

Wouldn't change any of them. They are all great.

RE: What Would You Have Named It? - Chdonga - 02-10-2011

Even Sawk and Throh?

RE: What Would You Have Named It? - Ark Kuvis - 02-11-2011

ESPECIALLY Sawk and Throh.

Change them. I don't mind Sawk, but throh? it just doesn't work. (In my opinion)

Why wouldn't 'Throh' work? They're Karate and Judo pokemon, and would 'sock' and 'throw' their opponents.

They arent perfect, but, hey...

Wow, those are all terrible, with the exception of the last - and that's just the japanese name anyway.

Actually speaking of which, the JP names have fairly traditionally been kind of bad, mostly just using loanwords. "Thunder" and "Thunders" being two different Pokémon. IN THE SAME GEN. Even now, Yorkshire Terrier Pokémon Lilipup was 'Yoterry' and Chandelure was just 'Shanderaa'.

The english names (with the exception of Ditto) has avoided this; which I'm greatful for.

actually, it was Yooterii.

Snivy should have been smugleaf (despite the fact it was intended to be a meme, but fuck it.)

Please don't argue with me over how it's romanised; it's the same goddamn word.

RE: What Would You Have Named It? - Sengir - 02-20-2011

tbh the only name that really peeves me is Panpour

you see, the 'p in pour' makes it's name stick out more than the others, which use an 's in sear and sage'. I think it should've been Pansoak or something

RE: What Would You Have Named It? - Chaos Rush - 02-20-2011

Reshiram = Hearthram

Yeah, I know GameFreak specially names their legendaries so that they wouldn't have to be changed in other languages, but still, Reshiram does not sound like an English name at all, and is obviously a romanized Japanese name, unlike Zekrom which sounds fine in English.

Also Cofagrigus = Deathcan

RE: What Would You Have Named It? - Chaoxys - 02-20-2011

I like the names, I'm just not sure how you pronounce "Axew". I mean, I've been saying "ax-ew", but after finding out that I had been misspronouncing Zoroark this whole time, I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong about Axew.

(I called pronounced it Zor-oar-k but then I was told it was zoro-ark, and later I heard it as zoror-ark. Which is it?)

RE: What Would You Have Named It? - Cshad - 02-20-2011

I pronounce it Zore-rork

This I do agree with. The name's fine, but it's strange that it doesn't alliterate like the others.

As for Reshiram, the name sounds vaguely arabic to me (while not being familiar with Arabic's phonolgy. It sounds like a language from that area of the world, at least); but Kyurem sounds Japanese through and through.

But I think as a general rule, the names of the major legendaries in each game go unchanged from japanese (with maybe some minor romanisation).
