RE: "The Art of Video Games" - ThePortalGuru - 02-17-2011 My choices for gen 5: Xbox 360: Bioshock, Limbo, Ikaruga, Darwinia+ Xbox: Psychonauts, Shenmue II, Xyanide, Sid Meier's Pirates! Modern Windows: Portal, Fallout 3, Everyday Shooter, Minecraft Nintendo Gamecube: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Wind Waker, Alien Hominid, Pikmin 2 PS2: Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Espgaluda, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Lockdown PS3: Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Flower, Brutal Legend RE: "The Art of Video Games" - Gors - 02-17-2011 anyway Paper Mario RE: "The Art of Video Games" - Kitsu - 02-17-2011 I voted for Flower. And then I saw PixelJunk Shooter. There were some games that I was wondering why they were even in the categories they were in. BTW, why did they have Metroid Prime 2 instead of the first one? I figured that MP1 was generally considered better, if mostly for the atmosphere and the fact that it didn't have the "Dark and Purple Place." RE: "The Art of Video Games" - kford2017 - 02-17-2011 Very cool. RE: "The Art of Video Games" - DioShiba - 02-17-2011 most of the choices are ether obvious or they just suck. Hell, Jet Set Radio easily has the best art, that's so obvious I can't even get over the fact these guys couldn't choose other games =/ RE: "The Art of Video Games" - Maxpphire - 02-17-2011 (02-17-2011, 05:48 PM)kford2017 Wrote: Very cool. RE: "The Art of Video Games" - Dear President Seinfeld - 02-17-2011 reminder: if you vote for Ocarina of Time instead of Majora's Mask you are an Artless Heathen Edit: if you vote for any Sonic game you're a retard edit 2: holy shit Fable RE: "The Art of Video Games" - DioShiba - 02-17-2011 (02-17-2011, 06:49 PM)schlong corrosion??? bro.... RE: "The Art of Video Games" - Koopaul - 02-17-2011 Ah hell DKC is gonna lose to Mario World simply because... "Mario" RE: "The Art of Video Games" - Cobalt Blue - 02-17-2011 DKC is ugly anyway. also: Ikaruga is a Gen4 game. launched on a dreamcast. RE: "The Art of Video Games" - Dear President Seinfeld - 02-19-2011 so many wrong votes are being made and theres nothing i can do about it. im so sad RE: "The Art of Video Games" - Koopaul - 02-20-2011 (02-17-2011, 11:21 PM)Fuchikoma Wrote: DKC is ugly anyway. Not surprised to hear this from a pixelart community. Seriously SMW had shit sprites. RE: "The Art of Video Games" - Alpha Six - 02-20-2011 I have to agree-- Super Mario World's sprites are not good by any sense of the word. SMW seriously had its share of very simplistic, and in some small cases, plain low-quality pixel-art, but it was sort of excusable since it was their first time doing 16-bit. Early Mega Drive/Sega Genesis titles that weren't directly ported from the arcades, like Alex Kidd for instance, also suffered that, to a much worse degree. DKC looked better, but while the rendered sprites did make it look somewhat more detailed and "realistic", it also made it look less realistic. Since they're rendered individual sprites, the sprites clash a lot in perspective, lightsource, etc, ironically losing a lot of the 3D illusion that the renders were supposed to give. The most notable error is in perspective, which is specially notable in small platforms. Too bad Yoshi's Island is not there to be voted :I Let's also remember that this voting is not about just only the quality of the graphics, but all of the art direction of the game: Music, atmosphere, etc. It's important when to vote to remember how the game handled its atmosphere. It may have shitty music or even not very good graphics technically, but the game might have had an unique style to it or other artistic merits that the game delivered really well. Or maybe don't remember. I'm not sure whether I should be taking this voting seriously the more I think about it :I RE: "The Art of Video Games" - Koopaul - 02-20-2011 Yeah it wasn't the graphics I loved from DKC anyway. I love it for it's heavier platforming experience, tag team life system, animal riding, and Indiana Jones inspired levels. Oh and it's fucking music! It would have still been a masterpiece to me whether it had pre-rendered sprites or not. |
