RE: Action RPGs Megathread (PSO2 Video!) - GrooveMan.exe - 04-28-2011 They're both hella awesome in their own ways. PSZ is much deeper in its mechanics and has more areas, but I really like the 'style' of the original more. FOnewm is the best class. ElfJesters. RE: Action RPGs Megathread (PSO2 Video!) - Omegajak - 04-28-2011 You know how people always say we need more original titles and less sequels there's one series that I feel is being untapped. Dark Cloud. Odin Sphere and Muramasa the Demon blade. I love the thought you have to put into Dark Clouds 2 battle tactics (I never owned 1); "Do I fight? This monster for the exp? Do I run away? Do I just hunt the Geo Stones THEN worry about leveling up? Are my items even up to the challenge?" The coolest part I find is that even though it's an action oriented RPG it has dungeon RPG backdrop meaning you have to go from floor to floor in most places. Some of these locations lead you to caves and soem to beaches, I just love the variety and constant change of setting. Uhhh this is the exact same thing as in Dark Cloud 2 except when the weapons break they don't disappear forever and it gives you a bit more freedom with building things. I actually really hated using Ruby as leveling her up is a fucking bitch and aiming her powers is the most asinine thing to attempt to even do. At least with Monica you can decide whether or not use the magic armbands. Not to mention, the Beach to Cave dungeon is in Dark Cloud 2. I don't think there was a beach one in Dark Cloud 1, Shipwreck would be the closest but that takes place fully on a ship. If I can feel difficulty on the game on proud mode, it will still prove it's not a hit x and win system. Maybe your just godly at KH, but we will get back to this. I actually only owned 2, but a lot of people mentioned that Dark Cloud 1 was a decent game and 2 just made it better. RE: Action RPGs Megathread (PSO2 Video!) - Maxpphire - 04-28-2011 Then why were you talking about the first game only idgi. Either way i do suggest you get to play the first game, it is good and the storylines do tie together in a good way too. The only thing I miss from Dark Cloud 1 that didn't happen in Dark Cloud 2 were those action cutscenes. RE: Action RPGs Megathread (PSO2 Video!) - Cobalt Blue - 04-28-2011 spiral knights anyone? The hardest difficulty for a lot of games nowadays is about the only way to actually get a fair challenge. I'm not trying to stir things up, but a lot of games play far too easily on the "normal" difficulty nowadays. Demon's Souls is very hard on normal difficulty, but other games are very easy on normal difficulty; it all depends on what the developers want to achieve and what kind of design approaches they're utilizing. RE: Action RPGs Megathread (PSO2 Video!) - TomGuycott - 04-28-2011 Anyone else like Legend of Mana? Spiral Knights, Diablo, Torchlight, Gauntlet, X-Men Legends. Actually, it might be fun to do a diagram/web of sorts for games like this. RE: Action RPGs Megathread (PSO2 Video!) - Kitsu - 04-29-2011 Would the original Dungeon Crawler really be considered an RPG? It kind of struck me as just an adventure game, and later games in the genre just took on some (or a lot of) RPG elements. Either way, dungeon crawlers looks like an interesting genre; I've been planning one as a side project for sometime. The randomly generated levels is probably my favorite part. And the action ones are a spinoff of that. I want to say Gauntlet was the first, but don't quote me on that. And the modern Gauntlets use stats and everything. RE: Action RPGs Megathread (PSO2 Video!) - ZaeTelapo! - 04-30-2011 "Anyone else like legend of mana" Legend of mana was really iffy. Like the battle system was kinda boring at times but almost everything else is amazing about the game. Lots to do, lots of customization, lots of replay value. Decent game though and one of the very BEST mana games. Although really, I don't think it doesn't beat Secret of mana 3, even though technically I think legend has more, but som3 was just more fun in all honesty. RE: Action RPGs Megathread (PSO2 Video!) - GrooveMan.exe - 05-11-2011 Oh hey, ArenaNet had an update: This is looking incredible. These guys do a great job of realising the concept art.
