it looks like only his right leg is going forward and his left leg isn't. I think his hand kind of looks like it's rolling funny too

As starsock said, only the right leg is going forward when the left leg should as well.
You're gonna have to make some custom frames in addition to the 4x ones.

He's definitely dancing Salsa or Bachata,
Does Mario always walk like that? I've never noticed it.
I think the two legs should go forward and backward,
