Your story sounds very similar to Avatar: The Last Airbender, epecially the plot for the episode in which the gang has to convince the king that there is a war going out side the wall of the city, which happens to be with 4 (One of the nations is extinct by then) Nations.

Kids these days are shockingly good at stuff that adults are known to do, its actually a little sad really. These kids are being taught and told things that they don't need to know and they got the pressures of adult tasks being... Oh wait this is going into a completely different discussion. Never mind.

genuine poopaul post

I mean

what's the reason of posting this in this thread???

"Yo I think that you and all the other competitors can't do anything good. Wait, I think they can. But that's something they don't need to know, why incentivating them anyways? Let's just make them watch cartoons and be improductive until they are 18"

The reason is to get people to post their comments on this thread of our game idea because we need the feedback.
You should really read the first 2 posts.

You have a good thing going here. I scanned the Singstar example pitch for a second, and I think you should focus more on your game design and gameplay. I love the story, but I just don't think just the story will be enough to make it in this competition.

Thanks for the advice.

(10-11-2011, 01:11 PM)Sploder Wrote: Well, right now, there isn't really enough information for me to provide crit. I mean, all you have right now are a very rough storyline (which has relatively little to do with game design) a few sentences that briefly touch on what your game will include:

1. 3rd person adventure
2. Customizable weapon
3. 1 main quest per area
4. Help people; fight enemies

From this, I can get a small list of verbs that seem to describe the player's actions in the game: explore, fight, and customize (perhaps talk as well).

However, we need to know how the player will be doing all this. Will the player be exploring any sort of overworld? If so, will he do so on foot, in a vehicle, or maybe even using some other way to travel?

How does combat work? Does it rely on timely button presses, strategic attack placement, or some other specific style? How will enemies respond; will they close in on the player one at a time or will they all surround him at once? Will there even be more than one enemy at a time, and what would be the average strength of the enemies?

How will customization work? Will the player simply buy upgrades and/or extra features, or will he have to construct these himself? Will these upgrades somehow change how the weapon functions (and therefore change the structure of the combat system), or will it simply increase some set of stats?

These are just a few of the questions you might want to ask yourself.
Either way, until you have more information, I really can't provide any critique at all. So, good luck, and I hope you can really give it your all!

We have been discussing an got the game down to this: Yes it s 3rd person and does include shooting, think Red Dead Redemption or Gears of War style cover based, we will also have melee weapons and even just fist fighting which will be similar to Batman: AA. You will get Xp from kills, Quests and such and will level up and obtain perks, like Fallout 3 and NV, there will be talking in it and the charecter will have a voice you can choose (one of the many customizable opions like apperance and running style) and will particiapte in coversation's with NPC'S and can worm info out of them with the right skills ( once agian think Fallout or even Deus Ex). Combat will vary depending on who and where your fighting, you might jump on the super solider( not comferming anything) and smash up his back controls so he goes ballistic and starts attacking the group of orcs that have come down from the cave they where hiding in to ambush the group of mercs who've come to collect the bounty placed on your head (spoilers!)( by the evil Briht corp who found out that you've seen them trying to bring an ancient demon back from the dead to rule over the world) (end of spoilers) who accidently causd an avalance when their horses bolted at the sond of fighting etc and it goes on and on, so the enviroment will react to your battles

There will be many forms of travel in the game such as, steam or horse powered cart or carriadge, dragons( still thinking over that one) which you can tame from an egg to be your ride or even giant insects hich you can attach reins or even mobile operating systems too (think of a Gears monsters like the brumak) or even boats and various other steam powered vehcales and yes, on foot too.

Customization will be similar to Saints Row as in Charecter Race customization also everything else you own is customizable e.g you can get a stencil put apon you armour or a skull rack put upon your steam vehicale so yes the customization will be VERY exstensive.

I think thats everything covered and so do ask if you require any other questions answered, ta ta for now!

RE: Bafta young game designers competition - Teabagger9777 - 11-29-2011

Unfortunately we have not won

RE: Bafta young game designers competition - Garamonde - 11-29-2011

Sad

What place did you rank?

RE: Bafta young game designers competition - Dazz - 11-29-2011

Baftas don't have a ranking system, it's either you win or you don't. At least, I assume that's how it is, since that's how it goes with the big Bafta awards.

RE: Bafta young game designers competition - Teabagger9777 - 11-29-2011

we didn't end up getting shortlisted to the final ten. Most of the games were platform. but we will try again next year
