RE: Abobo's Big Adventure - Cobalt Blue - 01-15-2012

the game crashed on me after the zelda dungeon.

RE: Abobo's Big Adventure - Rökkan - 01-16-2012

why are you guys praising this

does this game has anything going for it other than "lmao look at this NES reference"

Played it until the Zelda dungeon and everything was awful. There are a plentiful amount of times in which there is no way to advance forward without getting a bunch of hits. Specially the beat'em up segment at the beggining of the game. Fuck, I've played a lot of bad and unbalanced beat'em ups but that segment just tops everything. Thanks for making it so that once you throw in a kick or a punch, you can keep doing it forever to the enemy without him having a chance to fight back, and double thanks for making it so that the enemy can do that to you too.

Flash games have other things going for them besides references and platforming?

I find it fun to play. Really. Even if this game didn't have the references but kept the different playstyles, I would still praise this game because it's fun.

the references actually have good comedic timing, plus the gameplay is nicely varied and the animation is great?

RE: Abobo's Big Adventure - DioShiba - 01-17-2012

I kind of feel the need to point out that the gameplay was actually fun despite being unfair at times.

I mean yeah, there are some flaws but once you learn the tricks it's actually really fun to play.

RE: Abobo's Big Adventure - Cobalt Blue - 01-17-2012

its just another platformer with video game references and toilet jokes. done in flash.

i believe we have been thru this way too many times in the past to be anywhere near surprised nor amused by this overused formula.

Did you even play the game, Met?

RE: Abobo's Big Adventure - SKELTON S. SKELETON - 01-18-2012

of course i did. beated it on my second try.

RE: Abobo's Big Adventure - TomGuycott - 01-18-2012

Eh, no helping it then. Personally I think it's heart was in the right place, and even though there were some questionable spots (The toilet jokes and the last boss of the Zelda section looking pretty terribly drawn for example), the game's heart was in the right place and I certainly felt a big nostalgia factor. And even though half the jokes were pretty juvenile, there were others that had pretty good comedic timing, and there were a lot of parts that had really good animations.

But that's just me, I can't force you to like it.

RE: Abobo's Big Adventure - Altrez - 01-18-2012

But I CAN! Like it! Like it, damn you!

RE: Abobo's Big Adventure - DioShiba - 01-18-2012

You know, I feel like the toilet humor more or less added on to the nostalgia factor.

When you think about it at a certain point in our childhood we all snickered whenever we heard a poop joke. I don't see how it harms the game in anyway.

RE: Abobo's Big Adventure - Koopaul - 01-18-2012

The nerd in me dislikes the incorrect names given to the enemies...

RE: Abobo's Big Adventure - Rosencrantz - 01-19-2012

I dunno, I think the toilet humor's witty in an unintended way.

It goes to show that the general humor for pretty much anyone who has ever attempted to make a sprite-clashing clusterfuck tends to be within the realms of immaturity and, therefore, within toilet humor boundaries.

Personally, I think this game kicks ass for the absurdity. I couldn't care less for the nostalgia factor (considering I've actually never played Balloon Fight or essentially any beat-em-up games for the NES while growing up), and the retro style is now getting painfully overdone (but in the end, who honestly cares?), but I enjoy it.
