RE: SPACE JACKAL - Hoeloe - 01-25-2012 I wouldn't recommend using Gamemaker if you want to make this. I'd recommend something a little less laughable. That said, it's got the tools if you're not particularly logically-minded, so whatever. One thing I will say is that knowing how to make these will almost certainly not guarantee that they get done. From my experience, I used to come up with cool ideas, try to make them and then quit half way. Now I do the same, but also come up with interesting algorithms, try to find some way to implement them into a project, and then quit half way. Of course, if you don't plan to do anything serious in the future, by all means, use Gamemaker. I'd think my professor wouldn't teach us it if he thought it wasn't useful for a person serious in becoming a game designer RE: SPACE JACKAL - Strasteo - 01-25-2012 I may seem a bit biased, but I'm a moderator for the Stencyl community and have been part of it for a few years now. I highly recommend it, having used it for my own game creation for a while now and publishing my first successful game on Kongregate using it. I do admit I work with someone who's a little bit more programmer-oriented than I, but I've been able to get sprites, tilesets, backgrounds all imported, and to a degree, was able to make some small game projects of mine playable. It really makes game creation 'easier'. (Albeit, not more than moving around, jumping, and establishing a few enemies and obstacles) Anyway, I'm gonna stop advertising/hijacking this thread. I do encourage you to try it out for yourself and see if it works for you. I'd love to answer questions about it via PM if anyone decides to give it a try. Kongregates Flash games, and as my brother has attmepted it, he found it rather mind boggling. I think gors would be wanting a downloadable client (yes/no? I do). anyway Gamemaker is important you can make iOS apps now with GM Studio. Please put in smartbombs and/or flamethrower. RE: SPACE JACKAL - NICKtendo DS - 03-07-2012 As long as the game is fun, it shouldn't matter in what language or engine it was made, so why the hostility towards Game Maker? When it comes to commercial publishing, that's a different story. I even met Mark Overmars and he simply rejected both Bouncy Cat and Destroy the Universe for being pixel-art. (What's weird is that while he is Game Maker's creator, he didn't know the difference between pixel-art and raster images in general). Back on topic. What I'm trying to say is that it could be easily done in Game Maker as long as you do not intent on having it published on a portal or stuff like that. RE: SPACE JACKAL - Butler - 03-08-2012 Are there going to be serval different direction you could use the whip in, so that you could whip enemies approaching from behind or who have slipped behind your ship, an enemies below. Oh and are the bossing going to be screen filling, coming off the screen, and will the have multiple different areas that you have to decay before beating the boss like the bosses from Gunbird RE: SPACE JACKAL - Gors - 03-08-2012 possibly; I still don't have a lot of ideas on enemy aircraft (my friend said he was going to help me but he didn't yet welp) the whip can only be used forward. |
