RE: Donkey Kong Country edits - Koopaul - 03-06-2012 I don't know. I never believed you could edit a prerendered sprite like you could a normal one. It just can never seem natural. It's like a the limbs are separated and moving independently. Actually that's really is what's happening but its not supposed to look that way. In DKC series the animations were always fluid and the body parts looked connected, because they were. I think it might be a hopeless cause. However I am always interested in the possibility of someone from the Models Resource turning a model and animation into a prerendered sprite. That might be a cool project. RE: Donkey Kong Country edits - Cobalt Blue - 03-06-2012 as koopaul said, no matter how good you *think* you are. you simply do not understand what the hell you are doing with these. it would be the same with an edit of any other prerendered sprite, for example, mortal kombat. they arent sprites, they're 3D models who have been color reduced to fit the snes's hardware limitations. therefore, in order for you to create an sprite edit of these, you'd need to replicate exactly how the elements would look on the original model from where the renders were sampled. wich you clearly cant do without actually making an exact replica of the original 3D model. the results is a sloppy, completely off result wich looks at first look "ok". but detail wise it simply looks terrible. in all honeslty, you're better making either a 3D model of DK completely new from scratch, or an actual hand drawn sprite. Prerendered sprites were an ugly fad that lasted for longer than it should had. RE: Donkey Kong Country edits - Koopaul - 03-06-2012 Eh I disagree about prerendered sprites being an ugly fad. The DKC series still look beautiful to this day. I am actually interested in trying to make prerederded sprites here on the forums someday. RE: Donkey Kong Country edits - Cobalt Blue - 03-07-2012 i believe we had this discussion back in the day, though i'd explain why they became an ugly fad. while the initial DKC became a huge sucess being one of the very first games with a fully integrated aesthetic like this one(and the whole visual impact this had back in the mid 90's) it started a MASSIVE trend of virtually making EVERYTHING with prerendered 3D sprites wich lacked what made the original DKC so charming, thus generating a huge wave of horribly designed games with ugly prerendered sprites wich did nothing but became an early death the the whole thing. RE: Donkey Kong Country edits - Koopaul - 03-07-2012 Well when you bring it up here in this topic about DKC sprites, it just leaves the impression that you include DKC as one of those ugly things. Maybe that not what you meant, but it just seems that way. RE: Donkey Kong Country edits - Davy Jones - 03-07-2012 His fists should be rounder. Looks good to me. Right ear doesn't look connected to the rest when he turns his head. DKs lower body (behind the tie) looks a little bit too slim. Same here. This would need at least two more frames. It's not as fluid as the other gifs. Not sure, could use one more frame when he lays his hand on the guitar. When he lays his his hand off the guitar (I think it's just this frame), it looks a little bit choppy. I'm sure you can see the choppy part in the second half of this animation. He seems to shrink after the throwing. The GBA version of DKC? It's out of style plus Kiddy and Dixie would be far bigger than him. Not really fluid. And... where are his legs? His hands are made for the front pose, it just looks weird. Also no legs. What is he doing? Also choppy animation. |
