RE: SaGa Frontier sprites - Davy Jones - 04-09-2012 Ehrm, where are the layers? They have to be displayed in the VRAM. In PSX VRAM, they *are* broken down into "layers"... The main reason why I didn't include them in the sheets is that the labor involved assembling them all is frequently mind-boggling. My first priority was just to put together full corner-to-corner backgrounds without any character sprites on top*, since a lot of the maps are never seen "clean" in the game or in their entirety. I thought fans would enjoy having those first, and the possibility of updating with more perfectionist sheets could come later. * And even doing just this can take a lot of work! RE: SaGa Frontier sprites - Davy Jones - 04-10-2012 You can add the not-assembled foregrounds on the sheets, people who want to use them can do this on their own. RE: SaGa Frontier sprites - Reichu - 04-17-2012 Davy Jones: I've been reappraising the backgrounds with your suggestion in mind, and it's actually not as bad as I thought it would be. Hopefully I'll have some of those sheets revised soon. Though it's kind of slow-going still... So much to do from this game that my ADD is all over the place, and I don't yet have my own "assembly line" process quite in place. RE: SaGa Frontier sprites - DFA - 04-28-2012 Sorry for external linking but... we have created a new forum for exactly this type of stuff its the Saga Frontier hacking forum - http://biolab.warsworldnews.com/index.php This forum is specific to Saga Frontier 1, if you do not care for it, do not check the forum. RE: SaGa Frontier sprites - Reichu - 03-12-2013 Looks like MagmaDragoon added a couple while I was away. Nice! I've got some more to add to the pile. Apologies for the Photobucket... EDIT (March 16. 2013): I guess according to the current organization, Riki is a "character" and the rest are "enemies". Razorback's field sprites are omitted for now, as I don't currently have an efficient way to rip them. RE: SaGa Frontier sprites - Magma MK-II - 03-13-2013 I wish SaGa Frontier 2 was as easy to rip as this one... Do you know any tricks for getting the field sprites, then? I know where the playable character field sprites are located on the disk, but I lack palette offsets for most of them, and I'm not quite sure how to get them. (I'm not a programmer type, and I've been mostly waiting for someone who's into SaGa Frontier hacking to help me out.) As for the NPC field sprites, like the ones for Razorback -- I don't know WHERE the heck those are. There's no easy way to get SGF field sprites with PSX VRAM. There's the "take lots of screenshots" method, but this is extremely tedious and I don't think it yields pixel perfect results. RE: SaGa Frontier sprites - Magma MK-II - 03-14-2013 Well, at least you can get the battle sprites through VRAM, which are what interest me. ON SF2 you can only get sprites from Duel Battles. I also noticed that you made the backgrounds on your sheets transparent. I'm a bit of a newbie to all this -- is this considered a good thing to do, in general? And no tricks for the field sprites, eh? Shucks. Haven't played SF2. I've heard good things about it. One of these days... Unless the sprites use alpha transparency (as in, semi-transparent colours between fully opaque and fully transparent), there is no need for sheet transparency. Since it's easier to add transparency than to remove it - several programs have issues with loading and processing transparent files properly - I personally wouldn't recomment doing it. That's just up to you. Since I usually use sprites to make animated gifs, I prefer leaving them with transparent background. But yeah, some programs like Paint like to mess with transparency if you try to edit them directly. (03-15-2013, 09:23 AM)Reichu Wrote: And no tricks for the field sprites, eh? Shucks. The five should be good to upload now. Got lots of sheets for the small fry in the works, though. Quote:Well, there is always Animget...Don't think I haven't tried, heh! Been using it like a madwoman in the debug room, but after lots of pixel-picking I've learned that the shadows really mess up results. Well-explained. Thanks. RE: SaGa Frontier sprites - Reichu - 03-18-2013 Seven more, in addition to the eight here still to be added to the archives. Just realized that Photobucket is being a dbag and resizing some of my pics. Any alternatives out there that don't do this, AND don't change the file name? Wish the private server I use worked with spriters-resource; hotlinking must be blocked or something. I'm a bit at wit's end at the moment, so I'll try dumping it into a RAR: Kitty Kicker/Clawer RE: SaGa Frontier sprites - Magma MK-II - 03-18-2013 Motherf**** Earth Dragon! |
