Well, this just got a whole lot more intresting. I did find the series quite overraited, but I can at least enjoy it as a guilty pleasure. Have you seen some of his arts though? some poses of his ARE backbreaking, tbh.

But if it makes it happy, then fine by me. J.U.S. Saying.

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - Jawnsunn - 03-28-2012

SMBZ was sort of the pinnacle of sprite flash animations.
I loved watching the Axem Rangers Vs Heroes Vs Koopa Gang fight, it was pretty radical.

Disappointed with him giving up on the series, but hey, if a guy wants to draw fox tits, let the guy draw fox tits.

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - Koopaul - 03-28-2012

It got really stupid anyway.

Wasn't defending his art, just his right to create it, if that's what he wants to do. It was a fan work so no one paid anything to enjoy watching the series. He doesn't really owe anything to his fans as far as I know. I just find it a bit ridiculous that people are getting bitter over it. Plus when people are talking about how he could've continued it if he got other people to help.....it's a fan work. If there are people out there who would've wanted to help finish the series then nothing is stopping them from doing so anyway. I mean really, how many people post content about Mario and Sonic on the internet?

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - Garamonde - 03-28-2012

Yeah I agree that he shouldn't be restricted from doing what makes him happy, it's just the quitting that bugs people the most, I think.

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - Iceman404 - 03-28-2012

Best sprite series cancelled for furry pr0n.

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - Kitsu - 03-28-2012

Well, at least he didn't claim Cease & Desist.

Two Nintendo fanworks faking C&Ds is enough.

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - Iceman404 - 03-28-2012

Redigit ended SMBX like a man, fake C&D letters as a replacement for giving up is hilarious. What was the 2nd one anyways?

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - Kitsu - 03-28-2012

One of the many LoZOoT2D projects. Don't remember when it was, but it was quite some time ago; at least 7 years back I think (apparently the story goes that the guy even faked his death to get out of the game).

But, as funny as fake C&Ds may be, they don't do the Nintendo fangame scene any favors.

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - SKELTON S. SKELETON - 03-29-2012

yo can i just be the one to say nothing of real value was lost
this was a Sprite Animation that was made by a pretty mediocre artist
i'm willing to bet he quit more over reasons that he couldn't continue producing "quality" content
than not having time or anything like that

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - NICKtendo DS - 03-29-2012

I have zero problem with him drawing furries. That's his choice.
He did not quit to pursuit his dream of making furries. He quit because he was lazy.
It's his lack of professionalism that rubs my hair the wrong way.

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - Sol - 03-29-2012

That's the thing though, he's allowed to quit because he's lazy. If you're doing something for fun and it stops being fun and starts being annoying, you're allowed to quit. The fact that other people happened to be watching doesn't really factor into it. I mean if you watched and like SMBZ you're definitely allowed to be disappointed but that doesn't make it wrong for him to stop.

Also, professionalism? Yes it was a cop-out, but this is video game crossover fanfiction we're talking about here.....you might be asking a bit much.

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - NICKtendo DS - 03-29-2012

I'm not asking anything.
He's free to do whatever he wants. He wants to quit? Fine. The way he does it doesn't command much respect.

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - Dazz - 03-30-2012

He's free to quit.
I never watched the series, but if he is dropping a project that has given him a reputable status in the field simply because he's lazy, then there goes any idea of future employment from his work on the project.

People in a professional field can't just drop something with a following because they are lazy.

If I close tSR because I'm not 'feeling it' for a while, people would fucking rage. I have the right, but I'm not an idiot.

RE: SMBZ Officially Cancelled - Mistah_Jayden - 03-30-2012

I don't think a lot of you understand the pressure and devotion it takes to start and completely animate a series.

When he started, like all sprite animators he must of have thought MY GOD THIS WOULD BE SOO COOL Big Grin
and went with it. At a young age you've got shit to do, and animating your favorite characters beat each other to death is simply the best feeling ever.
But as you grow up and hold responsibilities in your life, get a girlfriend, find new interests, college (oh god this one the most) your once called hobby becomes less and less exciting especially if you aren't animating to major on it for the future. You get lazy and un-inspired and it's tough to continue.
Not to mention he has thousands of fans hounding him, forcing him to finish, a shit ton of people copied his style and decompiled his work, (meaning stole his sprite edits, sounds, effects etc.) and again that really bust someones balls.

I completely respect his decision to stop, I knew it wasn't going to be finished. 20 minute animations takes months, especially how annoying it is to have to compress it for the NG size limit. Most of the people are angry at him for it, but if you really were interested in his storyline it wasn't that hard to think of yourself. Again, I have much respect for Alvin.
