I'm not yet up to custom. RE: Plokman's Backgrounds and Sprite testground - Garamonde - 09-11-2012 No one will help you then. Edits are frowned upon here because they don't help you improve as much as custom work will. An easier way to approach is to roughly sketch out the basic shapes of your sprites (use stick figures if you have to), clean the outlines, and color + shade. Edits are what I can do and if they are frowned on then I must say Adieu. RE: Plokman's Backgrounds and Sprite testground - StarSock64 - 09-11-2012 Y'know, there's no such time when you'll spontaneously be "ready" for custom work. The only way to get good at custom work is to do customs. There's not really any reason to wait, at all. It's just a waste of time if you convince yourself that you're not ready yet. I mean, if you get some benefits from edits, that's fine. But um, y'know, you can do both. Though I suggest posting your customs, not edits, because there's really not much we can say about edits that will help. If you feel like you're not ready to do customs because your attempts are difficult and horrible, then well you're missing the point of practicing and improving. That's how art works. You deal with it and keep trying. RE: Plokman's Backgrounds and Sprite testground - Gaia - 09-11-2012 Adding to starsock's post, don't forget to experiment, that's what I do. Basically, all it takes is a bit of inspiration from the things you like, and making something new out of it. Also, try to add in a bit of a twist to your own (For example Gors was influenced by 80's anime, but he added a bit of a modern flair to it, making it stand out from the rest of the crowd). RE: Plokman's Backgrounds and Sprite testground - Gors - 09-11-2012 And I'm going to be frank, if you really think you aren't capable of doing customs because of pointless reasons such as this, you should indeed leave. It's really sad to see such opportunity being wasted due to fear of doing something new. Of course, not everyone is artsy, I admit, but not even trying it? :/ RE: Plokman's Backgrounds and Sprite testground - Plokman - 09-12-2012 All very true points. I only meant that I'm trying my hand at Edits and all. I'm going to be doing some customs soon. RE: Plokman's Backgrounds and Sprite testground - Plokman - 09-14-2012 Well heres a custom for ya. RE: Plokman's Backgrounds and Sprite testground - Keiang - 09-14-2012 You're still showing a pretty heavy reliance on the line tool. Granted, it's Porygon, so it's kind of a geometric shape, but there are still better ways to show that then the way you've done it. There might be contrast issue between the first and second lightest shades of any given color. One thing I really don't like is that single pixel on either side of the blue chest bit, it looks pretty bad. However, you are actually doing customs, so that's a step up. It'll be a slow, arduous process to improve, but keep at it. RE: Plokman's Backgrounds and Sprite testground - Garamonde - 09-15-2012 Despite what Keiang pointed out, that's still not that bad for a first-time custom. You at least have a defined light source while most beginners either pillowshade or have several light sources so that's a plus. Just keep at it! I hope my next few customs are good as well. next one will be like the porygon with heavy line tool. But every other one will be rounder. |
