RE: Concept sprite, looking for opinions. - RnR - 01-24-2013 I personally think you nailed the stance. Though I would suggest that you remove the lightest shade of blue from the shorts on the 3rd one to the right, as fabric doesn't shine like that. Well, at least...not in this dimension RE: Concept sprite, looking for opinions. - Bearded_Beast - 01-27-2013 (01-24-2013, 09:32 PM)RnR Wrote: I personally think you nailed the stance. Well, at least...not in this dimension I figured a few pixels might brighten it slightly, but I'll do that. Otherwise, I may do this over one more time after trying a few other things, like other characters. This will be a game at some point, but I'm still doing a huge amount of concept art, character design revisions, planning mechanics, and piecing together the story. I turn to spriting when I get frustrated with the regular development process. Any suggestions to make the character more readable, or interesting? RE: Concept sprite, looking for opinions. - Bearded_Beast - 01-28-2013 Since I've become frustrated with revamping the sprite further, I decided to try some alternate forms, each representing a different construct each with an element. Normal ; Brick Golem ; Pot of Fire The Brick Golem has shackle loops on each shoulder, in case he needs to be lifted by crane. If anyone has any thoughts on their design, or composition of the sprites, please share. RE: Concept sprite, looking for opinions. - Previous - 01-29-2013 I think the heads are positioned too far on the (viewer's) right - most notably on the middle one. Keep in mind the neck is at the back of the head, the chin protrudes. I think the contrast between shades could be better and the colour count could be reduced. I've come to the realization that the heads look farther back because of the collar. The taller one in the center is also leaning back more than the other two, which was intentional. As for the palette and contrast? I've debated with myself on that for the past week. Could you provide an example, good sir Previous? I have tons of problems picking colors for these things. (on a side note, I'll be changing the brick-one's legs/abdomen-pillar/upper-arm color, the one it has now is far too similar to it's brick color. I'm thinking marble or greyer stone.) RE: Concept sprite, looking for opinions. - Previous - 01-29-2013 I'm pretty sure it's not the collar's fault - take it away and they're still too far on the right. Think of them as three-dimensional objects, draw imaginary lines from the ears down, compare to the chest etc. Also, they don't appear to be leaning back, but to the side. The middle one's waist is all off, too, as if a chunk was missing. The chunk missing is intentional. It's as if his middle-torso/abs/spine is a pillar. Here's the boss the form comes from. I call him "Mason Stone" Though, I really do like the palette changes. After seeing how the head's position is, I will have to alter the head and collar accordingly. It's supposed to cover his mouth and be broad in front like Potemkin's. Thank you for taking time to illustrate these facts. Bombshell... you made my day with that bit. It only gets funnier the longer you watch the sprite while listening to "Another One Bites the Dust" RE: Concept sprite, looking for opinions. - Bearded_Beast - 01-30-2013 I moved the heads forward, used your color changes and exchanged the orange because it's to similar to the brick color, using purple instead. Is this any better? Ah hell.. well at least I can use these as guidlines. I'm going to need to make bigger sprites for this project. I'm working with a friend on this, and we realized we need to go bigger if we want to capture more emotion in each character. I'll post new ones a when I get some done. |
