RE: Let me take a good dump and touch your face [art] - DarkOverord - 05-10-2013 Reference porn. Course it's more complicated than that but naked bodies are a good reference. Though I think before I can offer some more constructive crit I have a question, on that most recent image, did you draw the head, then hair, then body? Because the way the arm on the left looks I'm not 100% her shoulder and arm line up well. Gorsalami there has a few good points, but understanding your creative process when you draw something helps in giving feedback. Depends on what you mean when you say that. Normally I start with a base (or skeleton), and yeah I can say that I started with the head on the skeleton but when I start going into detail I start with the body then once I'm done with that I'll shift the head if I feel I need to. I'm not typically "good" at lining up proportions however. But it does help when someone gives me that key pointer. I'm posting the reference because I did start out drawing based off this. So I might have missed a few things. I'm probably going to take a closer look at this and see if I can tell where I need to go with the piece itself. RE: Let me take a good dump and touch your face [art] - Chris2Balls [:B] - 05-11-2013 Hey there, here to try and help with anatomy again. First of all, let's compare your reference and your drawing: As you can see, a lot of perspective distortion occurs, which dilates the closest parts of her body. Her jaw is square, and her mouth curled downwards. She leans quite far forwards onto her right arm, which makes her chest tilt forward, like the other arm too; the pectoral muscle is diagonal. Her left shoulder is almost in line with her mouth, and her right is in line with her chin, if you ignore her hair. Defined the neck and clavicles, added more shape to the leg and buttock. Also, you may notice that I added a small line that suggests the back. If you want me to go through some bone or muscle details, ask away. PS: You said you based the drawing off the Suicide Girls photo, and you made her green: maybe if you filled us out more on your artistic intent, we could help you get closer to what you want? Far as the pose goes I used that photo for reference. The greenish skin is more or less for something that's going to help me with what I'm trying to aim for when I do the background and all the other stuff (which is going to have a dark themed pallate, so that's why I'm using a green/pale skin tone) other than that the key pointers you gave me will help a lot. I didn't phrase my question the best but you certainly answered it. What you've said is perfect and helps me understand how your creative process works! You basically don't work how I was asking which is overly detail first and move on, which is good in the long run! Chris made some excellent points though! My advice here is if you struggle lining up where things go is to draw a some simplistic figures to try and better understand the body, break the body down into basic shapes and see where things sit. Try and get references where you can see the body better, less hair or clothes in the way, male or female. Not to stop you making anything more detailed, but the practice with more simplistic proportioned figures should help! RE: Let me take a good dump and touch your face [art] - DioShiba - 05-11-2013 While we're on the subject, an update is in order. in short I fixed most of the anatomy issues and played around with the shading, I might experiment more after I mess around with the lips and get that right. RE: Let me take a good dump and touch your face [art] - Lexou Duck - 05-13-2013 Maybe you should do something called the "draw small, think big" try drawing really small characters, it will force you to think about the drawing as a whole all the time so you can focus more on the core of it rather than get lost into details another thing it feels like you draw while thinking of the lines you're supposed to trace, of the "edges" of the model what you need to do is think about it in 3D, everything is made of form and mass the edges are irrelevant because they only exist in relation to from where you're looking seriously this is one of the most important things in drawing you need to draw while knowing that you're actually drawing depth too, and you're supposed to have the figure in 3D in your head while you draw it something that might help is : try to imagine yourself as an ant, walking along the surfaces of the model the model will feel huge, but it gives you a good impression of the different volumes that construct its anatomy i hope you understand what i mean in all this edit : C2B will know where this wisdom comes from RE: Let me take a good dump and touch your face [art] - Chris2Balls [:B] - 05-13-2013 You raised a good point, Lexou. I don't know what kind of person you are Diagolesu, but I'm more of a visual/tactile person: when I draw, I tend to imagine I'm running my fingers along the volumes and masses of my subject to feel its shape, depth and texture. I think it's up to you to try to find an approach which helps you get closer to observing and drawing what you see, as for now you're more into interpretation (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). Maybe going for a reference with a lot less distortion and foreshortening would be a better start. Both of those points in the current reference make it more difficult to get the proportions right, and the pose is also quite complex. Last tip: working in greyscale with a background will make it easier for you to set the lighting and colour for your scene afterwards. RE: Let me take a good dump and touch your face [art] - DioShiba - 06-04-2013 Figured I'd do a little side project and figure out how to animate in flash. So far I figured out how to sort of "Boil" the symbols. (Even though I think I did sort of a lousy job on it so far.) Also sort of a preview of something I'm working on so yeah. also I should probably still figure out how to do form on the other thing I'm working on which I meant to post earlier but I got lazy and ended up forgetting to work on it harder over the last week. Then again a lot of stuff has been going on for me personally in real life but that's not really much of an excuse. So recalling some of the advice given earlier I ended up trying to work a few things more in form... Mostly the nose but other than that I fixed a few things that were brought to my attention that weren't here. RE: Let me take a good dump and touch your face [art] - DioShiba - 08-01-2013 It's been awhile. RE: Let me take a good dump and touch your face [art] - Zangetsu - 10-11-2013 Oh. I have to say I've seen cleaner art with more accurate anatomy (even though I'm someone who's completely hopeless at anatomy), but... I really love how sketchy and somehow rough your art looks! Like I've said, I've seen cleaner drawings, but I do love sketches. Loved that skull drawing. RE: Let me take a good dump and touch your face [art] - DioShiba - 12-07-2013 I haven't posted here in awhile so here's some of the stuff I worked on while I forgot this thread existed. Also someone is interesting in buying one of my pieces, holla. RE: Let me take a good dump and touch your face [art] - Gors - 12-08-2013 that's great! as i told you there's this... i dunno, flair in your drawings, they are far from being accurate but they show a lot of character. i like the landscape with the road the best, as for the dude with the brush as his hands, his projecting leg is bending inward, that's really weird. just a heads up for your next piece! |
