RE: Nintendo 2DS - DioShiba - 08-28-2013

I like it, but I have no reason to get one.

Like Dazz, I really dislike the fact that they didn't have the clam shell design. My reasoning is because I don't like the fact that it seems a bit big to put in your pocket and that's what I liked about the DS systems to begin with. The homage to the game boy systems is nice though.

I don't understand why they couldn't have given it the thicker hinge that a number of children's products already use? The Leapfrog games spring to mind.

My brothers leapfrog doesn't, most are made into tablet form now.

Ick.

I guess I'm surrounded by late-nineties/early-thousand's toys.

Edit: This looks like it has a hinge like what I'm talking about:

Of course not all of them are exactly the same Tongue

This might be why. While they could simply make them stronger, you completely remove the possibility of the hinge breaking just by getting rid of the hinge in the first place.

The other reason is that, with the tablet form, they have one large screen partitioned by software rather than two separate screens. That may be a decent portion of the price drop of $40.

The comments on that YouTube video. They depress me.

RE: Nintendo 2DS - Kriven - 08-29-2013

I would think protecting the screens would be a priority over the hinge?

RE: Nintendo 2DS - Gors - 08-29-2013

the thing is that if you crack the screen, that's terrible but you still /might/ be able to play it, differently than snapping the hinge which completely renders the machine unusable. Also I don't know, but a lot of my cousins that have small kids have iPads for a couple years, and nothing happened. Maybe it's a mix of good education and good personality in the baby.

also let's be honest, as a kid, I wouldn't even care about hinges or mono speakers, I would only want a videogame that played Mario. The same will happen with 2DS, but with Pokemon.

I've had a GB Brick, GB Pocket, GB Color, and a GB Advance, and I've never had an issue with the screen getting messed up. Granted, those could fit in your pocket (Brick aside), but simply using a little game case (as shown in the 2DS trailer) would solve that problem. You also have to remember that this is for little kids, so they will most likely be playing it at home, or in the back seat of a car. I doubt they will have much of a need to walk around with it.

RE: Nintendo 2DS - AuraLancer - 08-29-2013

The controls actually look comfortable for my huge hands, unlike my 3DS and DS lite. It might be worth it to play some of the more painful games like Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Mega Man ZX, and Metroid Prime Hunters.

That's why Nintendo of America just disabled them today. People keep abusing them on other videos and even their YT discussion page.

Do people want to scare Nintendo back into isolation again making them rethink their social media approach (including Miiverse) in future console & handheld releases?

(Crosspost)
Yeah, I actually think it's a pretty smart decision. It's kinda out of left field, but it perfectly captures the demographics of not only children, but people who can't see 3D and people who are poor.
