RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Crappy Blue Luigi - 02-09-2014

it's the face. the mega man face is so iconic and recognizable (especially to sprite artist veterans) that it's hard to see it and not think "yeah, that's mega man."

i can't really criticize your link sprites for having that face, though; it's in style and fitting for the character (both rock and roll have the same face and they're pretty child-like). if you were going for more of an ocarina-of-time-y adult link, then it'd look off.

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - DragonDePlatino - 02-23-2014

Currently I'm working on a huuuuge expansion of DawnLike called DawnFortress. It's a Dwarf Fortress tileset done entirely in DawnBringer's palette!
Progress updates are here!

Mega Man-styled Link is currently on the backburner and will very likely be abandoned or held off for a month or two until I finish this project. I really just don't see why I should work on something when my other work is getting such recognition (and usage!)

And in other news, I've been idly checking in on TwitchPlaysPokemon a lot lately. I really was surprised to see democracy get us into the daycare within 5 minutes! Here's a 4-hour pixel art piece I did in support of the Old Amber preservists, because Old Amber needs more love.

OTL Thanks...But why does everyone keep saying these are edits? To quote,

Oh well....I guess that given custom spriting's history, it's pretty much impossible to make a Mega Man-styled sprite without it looking like an edit. Sad

Sorry, missed that. Was too busy looking at the pretty pixels. XD

Also, the Dawnlike sprites are adorable, but the download link on your OGA page for them seems to be broken.

Hmm...it's broken? Were you trying the link from here? Just tested it. It should give you a DawnLike_0.zip when you download. That is, if OGA is working properly. The site has run into some trouble in the past...like download counts magically disappearing then reappearing...Gonna Puke

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Kelvin - 04-30-2014

It just redirects me to a site called Stash that gives me a 404.

Ah-HA! Thanks for pointing that out to me. OGA was giving me problems updating a while ago, so I went ahead and added a seperate download in the description while OGA got it's servers back together. I've removed the "DOWNLOAD HERE" so there shouldn't be any confusion now. What you're actually looking for is the little .zip folder icon near the bottom with "DawnLike.zip" next to it.

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - Kelvin - 04-30-2014

Alright, it works now. Geesh, I can't believe I forgot about the little link at the bottom. It's been a while since I used OGA.

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - DragonDePlatino - 06-14-2014

Well, with the start of the summer I've been able to find a lot more time to work on pixel art projects...But with the opening of new projects, old ones must come to a close. I don't want to be one of those types who never finishes anything! Anyways, I'm going to call my Mega Man Link sprite sheet finished and submitted. That brings me down to...three projects. My Fighter's Resource character, an unstarted webcomic and...A brand new, shiny coat of paint for Mother 1!

I just recently finished the original Earthbound for the NES, and I really felt it was a bit of an unpolished gem. I'm currently using several tools to completely redo the overworld, tiles, sprites and palettes. Also, with permission, I'm porting Tomato's (he did the Mother 3 translation) new translation to the old ROM. So for now, take a look at my retake on the enemy sprites! Here are the clay models I'm referencing. Critiques are welcome!

Very good, Dragon! By the way, that enemy on the right of the second row looks a little like Hank Hill, don't you think?

Why does everyone keep saying that about Wally?!? You're, like, the 12th person I've heard that said that. Tongue

I dunno, I guess the low resolution kind of just adds ambiguity like that. To me, his clay model looks more like a Chinaman: http://earthbound.wikia.com/wiki/Wally?file=Wallyclay.jpg

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - DragonDePlatino - 06-14-2014

DANGIT. OK, THAT'S IT. THAT WAS THE LAST STRAW.

And into the ROM it goes...

RE: DDP's Sprite Workshop - OSL - 06-14-2014

hahahah you're Good. btw i'd suggest make link's face more delicate somehow on your meagaman styled sheet. (change the width of his face, make him a nose, change the pixels on the hair, give it more originality) Link's Face doesn't look anything like Megamans, even if they were in the same style. That way people won't say it's an edit (They won't be able to see it)

Please read. Back in post #23 I said my Mega Man sheet is finished and submitted. I'm moving on now.

Looks good, but what happened with his design this time around? As in, what happened to the pitchfork, and what is that under his hand this time around?
