RE: Smash Rosters - NICKtendo DS - 01-16-2014 The future will tell who is wrong. RE: Smash Rosters - Ton - 01-16-2014 It's gonna be Protoman or Bass, almost 100%. It's a popular sidekick/rival character. We know it won't be Rush or Yellow Devil. It's probably not Wily. Dr. Light and Roll don't really do anything, and how do you pick one Robot Master over any other? That leaves two choices. And it's not Zero. Zero and Classic Megaman have never been in a game together beyond a cameo. On a serious note, this looks like exactly the kind of thing Sakurai would love to do. (01-16-2014, 12:57 PM)[robo9] Wrote:(01-16-2014, 12:41 PM)Ton Wrote: And it's not Zero. We got a character who was directly related to that series of games. RE: Smash Rosters - Kriven - 01-16-2014 Not that anybody would have disliked Scratch and Grounder. RE: Smash Rosters - [robo9] - 01-16-2014 I don't know, he's recognizable and is from a MegaMan game, even if it's not one that relates to MegaMan classic. There's been only one game involving the ATs, so there could just be a chance that Sakurai doesn't have some laid out rule about which characters to use as ATs. As amusing as Scratch and Grounder are (as well as any character in the Archie Sonic comics), it's understandable that they aren't featured in any official games due to Sega not considering them part of the official Sonic canon. While we do consider them official characters, part of the reason why is due to growing up with them and how they are a product of the American branch of Sega. Even if American Sega does something like… I dunno… Say confirm Sonic and Tails are brothers (as a more extreme example), Sega of Japan would never go for it. Sure, I think the Archie Sonic characters appeared in this one pinball game and there was Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, but I actually think that those games were the work of Sega employees of the west without any input from the main Sega in Japan. I'm not implying anything that would demote the status of great characters like Scratch and Grounder, but I am saying that only the west would regard American Sonic character with such enthusiasm because most Japanese gamers never grew up with the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and are probably more interested in reading manga adoptions of Sonic games as opposed to Archie Sonic due to cultural differences. Besides, I think Sega of Japan probably acknowledges what we Americans had done with their blue mascot in officially licensed media, but their reaction is a delighted chuckle and nothing else. In fact, Shigeru Miyamoto reacted in a somewhat similar manner when someone interviewing him mentioned the late Captain Lou (he didn't know what the interviewer was talking about, but he paid his respects for his passing regardless). Also, the classic Megaman and Zero may not be from the same series, but they are from the same canon, the same universe. He was created by Megaman's arch-nemesis after all. It's just that Zero's from 100 years in the future, but time didn't stop Link and Young Link from both being in Melee. I think Zero has a good chance because of his reputation. By the way, why was Shadow an AT and not Tails, aside from the effect? RE: Smash Rosters - Kriven - 01-16-2014 Yoshi is not a Mario character. Wario is not a Mario character. Zero is not going to be a Mega Man Classic character. Also, I don't see how posting a gif of Roll proves anything about Zero... because he also happened to be in TvC? I guess Jun the Swan and Ryu are Mega Man characters now. Also: Grounder (although red in color) debuted in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and also appeared in Sonic Pocket Adventure. Coconuts has a similar history. Scratch is the only "unique" member of the Badnik Trio from AoStH, but even he's based off the Clucker. Regardless, the Mega Man we're getting in Smash Bros is from the Mega Man Classic franchise, not X. So it wouldn't make sense if we got a character from a different franchise in this game, but they're both considered characters of the same franchise. Imagine if Mario were the only character from the Mario series in Smash Bros at this point, and they brought in Donkey Kong and said they were from the same franchise. After all of the DK Country and Land games, the rebooted Country games, that weird era of GCN and GBA games, the old arcade games and DK 64, they still say Donkey Kong and Mario are from the same franchise. That wouldn't make a lick of damn sense, and saying Zero and classic Mega Man are from the same franchise doesn't either. I love how Ton started this so we can talk about potential character rosters, but we just end up arguing over stupid shit like Assist Trophies that don't make any sense. But now we can argue in two threads at once. RE: Smash Rosters - [robo9] - 01-16-2014 Except Donkey Kong was made into his franchise. He became the Donkey Kong franchise. Even though Megaman X is however years in the future, it's still Megaman. Still the fight between between Dr. Light and Wily, still using Megaman to fight Wily's evil. If Mario and Luigi had kids and went to fought Bowser Jr., I'd still count that as the Mario franchise RE: Smash Rosters - Omega - 01-16-2014 I really hope Chibi-Robo gets in. I'm arguing that Zero, a character that has nothing to do with Mega Man Classic, has zero chance (haha) of being an assist listed under the same franchise as Mega Man. |
