RE: Top Ten of the Week #2 - First Encounters - Maxpphire - 01-25-2015 Ok 1. Murmur Twins from the Bemani game series. Yes I'm using a song as one. I used to play a lot of DDR Supernova for the PS2 and this was one of my favorite songs that I could indeed actually do. Turns out it had a beginner chart in IIDX when I started to play so I'd play it a lot. 2. Nakaji from Pop'n Music. He is the first character I came across in the game and I feel in love with his design ever since. 3. Pidgey from Pokemon. My second Pokemon ever in the whole game series, but the first one I caught. Also my first fully evolved Pokemon. I can't think of anymore welp. RE: Top Ten of the Week #2 - First Encounters - Jermungandr - 01-25-2015 Take your time, you have all week. RE: Top Ten of the Week #2 - First Encounters - Kriven - 01-26-2015 1. That Blue Beach Koopa in Yoshi's Island 1 in Super Mario World. You load the level, you're standing there not quite knowing how this new-fangled four-button controller works, and BAM! The little bastard just dives into you. 2. Rattata and Pidgey in Pokemon RBY. 3. the Mad Dog in Earthbound. There's only like, five houses here... where did all these rabid dogs come from. uh... hm.. kinda out of steam on this topic... I'll come back maybe. RE: Top Ten of the Week #2 - First Encounters - Koh - 01-27-2015 I might have to come back later, as top 10 is hard to come up with on the spot, but my number one choice would definitely be #1 - Final Fantasy Tactics - Battle #1 ![]() Not only are you shown a healthy amount of the mechanics of the game right in this first battle, you also have two badass yin-yang allies. Holy Knight Agrias and Dark Knight Gaffgarion. Little would you know this setup actually leads to something greater, in one of the best RPG stories to exist... RE: Top Ten of the Week #2 - First Encounters - TomGuycott - 01-27-2015 RE: Top Ten of the Week #2 - First Encounters - puggsoy - 01-29-2015 (Numbered in order that I think of them not necessarily by preference because I can't be bothered choosing.) #1: Squirts - Bastion The youngest of the Windbags, even though they're quite small and not terribly strong individually (save for a couple of large ones), they can still be a challenge in numbers and stay prominent throughout the game. Green Squirts can also spawn from the ground and take you by surprise. It can be satisfying if you manage to take them out efficiently and swiftly though; there's even a training ground dedicated to eradicating a swarm as quick as possible! It's also possible to obtain your own summonable friendly Squirt to help with battles. ![]() #2: Cat Guards - BattleBlock Theater These are interesting because even though they're technically a single enemy, they can vary a lot. Some of them actively try to get at you, jumping around and hitting you; these are generally my least favourite, since they're hard to hit and I keep forgetting they can double jump. The other kinds generally stand still, and periodically do something; this can range from spewing out blocks of ice to sucking stuff towards them like a vacuum (these abilities each correspond to a weapon that the player can use as well). Some of them are helpful though, for example in one level you need to jump on the acid balls that one cat shoots to obtain a high-up gem. I personally think this is fairly well done, making enemies a part of the level itself, rather than simply a hindrance. ![]() Uh... I can't think of any more right now to be honest, if I do later on then I'll edit this post. RE: Top Ten of the Week #2 - First Encounters - psychospacecow - 01-29-2015 1. Tunnel Snakes - They Rule! 2. The Undead of Resident Evil - The intro scene from 1 is iconic. 3. The World - Bastion. The world of Bastion is one you know all too well. You walk out, go about your day in places you see like pubs, markets, fairs, but everything is broken. Its not like Fallout level broken. No, the ground underneath your feet isn't guaranteed to be there on your next step. 4. The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim's Dragons. WHAT IN OBLIVION IS THAT!!!!!? 5. X-COM Enemy Unknown - The Tutorial. Though completely skippable, you should play the tutorial at least once. It perfectly sets the point that what you've come to expect is wrong and as advanced and powerful as you think you are, you're just as vulnerable as the occupied in times of imperialism. If I think of more, I'll put more. RE: Top Ten of the Week #2 - First Encounters - Jermungandr - 02-01-2015 Week #3: Favorite Pokemon by Type Yes, yes; I'm sure you can all easily rattle off your top ten favorite Pokemon with little effort. But like I said in the first post, not every week is going to be in Top Ten format, and this is one of them. No, this week we are going to pick out our top favorite Pokemon for each of the available Pokemon Types. That is, you are to pick out ONE favorite Pokemon for each of 18 types, for a total of 18 picks. (Although mentioning runners-up/honorable mentions is perfectly allowed). Pokemon with dual types can be used for one type or the other, it's your pick, but you can't use the same Pokemon for both types. You need 18 unique monsters. Once again you are still welcome to post your lists from previous weeks if you never got around to it. RE: Top Ten of the Week #3 - Pokemon! - Gwen - 02-01-2015 Fighting: Scrafty! Bug: Heracross Steel: Scizor Electric: Electabuzz Water: Samurott Grass: Leavanny Fire: Typhlosion Ice: Froslass Dark: Houndoom Ghost: Chandelure Poison: Scoliopede Dragon: Groudon Psychic: Slowking Fairy: Aromatisse Normal: Smeargle Rock: Kabutops Ground: Excadrill Flying: Noivern RE: Top Ten of the Week #3 - Pokemon! - Koh - 02-01-2015 Water - Lanturn/Lantern He's cute, he's strong, he's tanky, he's part Electric, he has Volt Absorb, and with Surf/Waterfall, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt/Thunder and any fourth move, he dominates. Runner up is Poliwrath/Nyorobon, for being cool looking, strong, and amazing with elemental punches. Ghost - Haunter/Ghost I actually prefer Haunter's look over Gengar,, even though Gengar is the better in terms of stats. Fastness, insane amount of Special Attack, and a mean Shadow Ball player. Bug - Ledian/Redian While it may not be the strongest bug ever, it's cute, can learn Psychic moves, and is pretty decent in the main game. Fighting - Machop/Wanriky I've always liked Machop and would keep him unevolved in my party, but still kicking ass. 3 ft of pure power and terror~ Psychic - Xatu/Natio A boid that can see into da futuah! And dish out a mean Psychic attack. Fire - Tepig/Pokabu May be a starter mon, but I've found him the cutest of all the fire starters, and kept him unevolved. Electric - Ampharos/Denryu Excellent Thunderbolter and pretty speedy. Flying - Braviary/Warrgle Probably another of the few Gen 5 Pokemon I actually cared for. Pretty dang strong and fast, and also looks cool. Ground - Sandslash/Sandpan Pretty dang speedy and cool looking. Grass - Nuzleaf/Konohana Looks pretty cool, and can be decent if trained enough. Steel - Magneton/Rarecoil Three heads are better than one!
