RE: New Sonic BOOM game - Yawackhary - 12-02-2015

For some reason the game is off my radar, was aware of it when it was announced but then forgotten. First impression admittedly though was Sega are releasing another Sonic Boom game? Considering everything that happened with the Wii U game and ruined what was Sonic's recent good run of games (from the day time Unleashed levels to Lost World console wise, handhelds were fine throughout though) despite Shattered Crystal was the better game of the two and was more forgotten. Yeah, I was surprised that the 3DS game got a sequel. Do have a theory that the game being delayed isn't due to quality control but rather Sega at the moment (Yakuza 5 English version is mysteriously delayed despite almost ready to the point of some reviewers having copies and am aware of the problems on top, Persona 5 is delayed, unknown whether the rest of the 3D Classics are coming out outside of Japan, the recent restructure). It has happened in the past (e.g. Anarchy Reigns delayed for no reason, Monster World IV English version was ready and completed a year before release). If in this case it makes the game better, I'm all for it but a delay for a sake of a delay then...

I did play a demo of the first 3DS game and just didn't feel right to play for me. While I did kinda got hold of the controls, they were a bit complex than they should be (considering the original Sonic was basically D-Pad and every button was Jump and much of the series at least have easy to learn controls). While my memory of the stage is foggy, do remember it was like a Tropical shore one and was stop/start with its level design. It was like it had a nice idea (long Metroidvania type of levels, after all people loved S3&K's longer levels) but could have been better executed. The boss run section was all right though. If the sequel is the same and then some with the controls, it doesn't look good. Have read though that the developers are making the levels shorter and have better flow so it looks like they have at least improving the game hopefully to be at least a decent game. The reason why I tried the demo of the first game in the first place was because it was made by the Sly Cooper 4 team and really really enjoyed that game, that one was delayed too to make it better.
