RE: Superspongebobbros's big stash of sprites - superspongebobbros - 04-28-2021 Update 4/26/2020: Second consecutive update on a Wednesday. I must be losing my touch. Anyway, this is a small update on the progress of Weeaboo Man's sprites. I finished the key frame from yesterday, and now I am working on the third major key frame. I might have to cancel weekly updates since I seem to be struggling with doing them in a timely manner. Thank you for your support. RE: Superspongebobbros's big stash of sprites - superspongebobbros - 05-05-2021 Update 5/3/2021: I have decided (belatedly) that there will be no update this week. Instead, I will cut back to posting updates at a random time. The reason is because I am still struggling to post updates on time. Additionally, it gives me additional time to work on Weeaboo Man's sprites. Thank you for your understanding. RE: Superspongebobbros's big stash of sprites - superspongebobbros - 06-15-2021 Update 6/15/2021: Wow, its been quite a while since I posted, hasn't it? Anyway, I just wanted to take the time to talk a bit about the stuff I have been working on throughout the past few months. First off, Weeaboo Man. In my last update, I said that I was postponing regular updates because I found it hard to stick to the weekly schedule while also contributing to my school work. Well, I am proud to announce that I have graduated from school, and I will now have a lot more free time for the foreseeable future. With that said, I haven't made much progress on Weeaboo Man's sprite set. I have finished the third key frame (left) and began making the fourth (center) before I made the decision to further refine Weeaboo Man's sprite set (right). I'm not sure when I will post another update about Weeaboo Man, but I'll most likely wait until his idle animation is complete. With that sprite out of the way, lets move on to some of the other sprites I have made. (NOTE: These first sprites have been removed. Please check this post for more details.) Next up is a set of sprites that I did back in late April. Do you remember 7 Grand Dad, that bootleg ROM-hack of a Flintstones game on NES that replaces Fred Flintstone's head with Mario? Well, I took the liberty of refining Mario Grand Dad's sprite set. I'm not gonna show off all of them, but I am gonna show a few of them so you can get an idea of what I did, along with the original sprites for comparison. (Original sprites are in red boxes; Redone sprites in green) I managed to touch up all of the sprites of Grand Dad that appear in the game, even the ones that don't appear in the sprite sheet that's on TSR (the sheet is missing the last frame of Grand Dad's walk cycle, the sprite of Grand Dad jumping while charging an attack, and the vehicles that Grand Dad uses in the levels). There are also two smear frames, one for attacking and the other for charging, that I created. The first one is based on the sprites of Fred attacking from the 16-bit Taito Flintstones games, while the last one is completely custom. (NOTE: There was another sprite here, but I decided to remove it. Please check this post for more details.) Last up is a sprite that is still in the works, but kinda bookends this entire update: a completely new Mario sprite! Yes, I am revisiting the very first sprite set I ever presented in this forum. Currently, the sprite is still a work-in-progress. My main goal so far is to make Mario's proportions match his official renders, which I feel that I have managed to do. Additionally, the longer limbs (well, just his legs so far, but you get the idea) and body allow for Mario to take up a more natural shape, which I feel helps the sprite look better. So, these are just some of the projects you can look forward to. Stay tuned for more updates. RE: Superspongebobbros's big stash of sprites - superspongebobbros - 07-26-2021 Update 7/27/2021: Scrolling through these posts, I now realize just how many unfinished projects I have. Maybe next time I update this thread, I will have actually worked on them. That said, I have made some progress on the sprites from the previous update, so we're gonna look at them first. No, Weeaboo Man is not part of this update. I'm still working on the initial frame, trying to add additional details (like, for example, on his shoes). (NOTE: The first two sprites have been removed. Please check this post and this other post for more details.) Finally, the new Mario sprite. The WIP sprite from the last update is done! I struggled to come up with good arms for the sprite, and I ended up using the original sprite's arm as a basis. I have no idea when I'll add more to it, but I plan to revisit the arms, since they don't really flow well with Mario's stance. Now that the older sprites are accounted for, its time for the new sprites I have made/finished since last time. First up is another remake of an older sprite, this one of Sonic the Hedgehog! Up top is three sprites: the one on the left is the original sprite from around 2018 or so, the one in the middle was one I made in late 2020 that I scrapped because I felt that it was too much of a copy of the 16-bit sprites of Sonic, and the one on the right is the latest one! I was reluctant to share this one, as I wanted to share the original Sonic spritesheet first, but in the end I decided that it would serve as a good lead in to this section. And, speaking of redoing old sprites, here's the last one for the night: Mega Man! This one is significantly different than the other ones in that I made it using a different technique than the other ones: using basic shapes to provide a rough silhouette of the final product, and working from there. I feel that this degree of planning helped the sprite to look better than my previous efforts, especially compared to my first attempt at a Mega Man sprite. That's all for now. Maybe next time I update, I will have figured out how to remove the poll from this topic! RE: Superspongebobbros's big stash of sprites - superspongebobbros - 08-06-2021 Update 8/6/2021: Minor update tonight, but I want to let you know something. You know about those sprites I've been making based on that one terrible Vinesauce meme? Yeah, I decided that I am gonna keep that particular project private, mostly because I'm embarrassed about the name, but also because I wanted to work on them on my own time. Because of this, the last two updates will be edited to remove these sprites. Thank you for your understanding. RE: Superspongebobbros's big stash of sprites - superspongebobbros - 11-14-2021 Update 11/14/2021: Been a while, hasn't it? Sorry, no sprites for today. I just want to explain my general absence in this thread. Basically, I moved houses in September and that took up a lot of my time throughout that time. I've also lost my general motivation to put effort into making sprites. I've been trying to get back into the swing of things though, so don't worry. I can't give you an ETA on when I'll post something here again, but rest assured that I'll do it eventually. Thanks. Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention, but I'll also be away until the issue regarding this site getting affected by malicious ads is dealt with. RE: Superspongebobbros's big stash of sprites - superspongebobbros - 11-27-2021 Another quick update. I've been making some progress with getting the motivation to sprite, however, the stuff I said I'd be working on back in June/July aren't quite showcase-ready yet. For now, here's a sprite of Mario I made earlier this week. Thanks. Major Update - superspongebobbros - 07-06-2023 This is my first post in well over a year, but I'm not going to showcase anything tonight. Instead, I want to inform everyone that I will be removing most of the fighting game sprites I have uploaded. Specifically, I will be removing both of the Andy Bogard sprites along with the Hwa Jai sprite, the Goku and Vegeta sprites, and the Mario sprite. The reason for this has to do with my process for creating the sprites. The DBZ/Mario sprites were created using screenshots of the characters, while the Andy/Hwa sprites were made using their KOF XIII sprites. In both cases, however, I extensively used these references, scaling them down and frequently copying them. As a result, I have come to conclude that this process is too similar to tracing, and I am no longer comfortable with keeping them in this thread. As with the He Thicc sprites, I will be removing the sprites from my previous posts, and leaving an explanation along with a link to this post. I may revisit these projects and create new sprites - hand-drawn and 100% custom, of course. But for now, they have no place on the website. PS: As it turns out, I ended up deleting one of my posts that was only about the original Andy/Hwa sprites. Just to let you know. |
