Put the texture in the material's diffuse and the opacity slot, go into the opacity map, set mono channel output to alpha and set alpha source to image alpha
I'd also recommend making the ambient color black otherwise you might get white-ish lines around the edges.

I normally fixed the alpha in a few model's textures and succeeded as well (2 or 3)... but it depends on the materials themselves... so probably TGE's tidbit might be more usefull.

hello i am having trouble here. I applied the normal map but i dont think its showing the full detail like the pic on the right. so does anyone know how to fix this? i use maya http://i.imgur.com/TstyO94.jpg?1

You forgot to apply the specular maps.

just look at multiple value's and then if u think u find 1 thats right... multiply each value by 255 and u'll find it.. best to use paint.net coloring tool to figure out the color

Ok i tried changing the values you described in the max script listener, but every time i hit enter to execute the command, it registers in the listener but nothing changes on the model or materials and i've tried this on both zzs and Shulk. I have it set to render everything in the view port and i check the render object window, but i still see nothing.

Also why are there no specular maps in the character texture files, all i see is diffuse and opacity maps.

the specs (aka specular maps) are built inside the normal maps under the Alpha Layer.

Info about the model:

Only 22 bones. They didn't need too many bones because he literally has only one animation.

Including all extra body groups (at least I think that's what they're called...), there are 4262 faces.

There is only one texture. While the Trophy version of this model has a normal map, the Assist Trophy doesn't even get one.

Certain parts of the model are extremely low-poly for some reason, especially compared to Sonic. Maybe they were just lazy.

The extra body groups are three different mouth types, four in total. They include a neutral mouth for each side, right-side open mouth, and right-side angry "teeth" mouth.

Um i wanna help get the models up for people, but i tried to get fox and all i get r textures. How do i get the obj file and etc?

You need 3DS Max to get the models.

Lucas and Mewtwo have been ported over to the steam workshop but not on TMR. I don't really know why RTB puts his rips on the website he's an admin on. As for Luggy and the other DLC characters, no work yet.
As for Sonic in brawl, i don;t know if he's been ported over yet.

Because I have to do some changes to get those models working in GMod, and I'll have to re-do all of the exporting and whatnot for The Models Resource.

That and I've been incredibly lazy recently, I haven't gotten anything uploaded for tMR in months. I've been meaning to get a bunch of SSB4U models up on the site sometime soon.

Had a feeling it was because of the differences with GMod models. IIRC they have less materials on them than the models here since a lot of the face poses are on one material.
