It was cooler when it was black w/ purple, rather than flat bright purple. I know it's just the sprites but it still looked badass.

yeah sure, he was black/purple in the games, but thats just the game sprite, in his official art hes always been purple.

No, he has a skateboard in the Manga.

It just doesn't translate to the games, most likely for consistency reasons.

Yeah, fairly sure the bike was going to be a skateboard in the earlier versions.

It's what I remember hearing too, although I don't recall the rumor ever being confirmed by Game Freak, nor did any of the early ingame screens show Gold with one.

I heard there was data for it, but no sprites. There was a safari zone, but it wasn't open in the game.
