RE: What movie did you just watch? - Helmo - 10-19-2012 Gremlins it was ok I guess RE: What movie did you just watch? - Goemar - 10-21-2012 I think to enjoy Gremlins properly you had to be their when it came out. RE: What movie did you just watch? - StarSock64 - 10-26-2012 Silent Hill Revelations. I actually liked the first movie. This one was a disappointment. Most scenes flew by; the pacing was all over the place. The dialogue was completely awful. Unsurprisingly, Heather wasn't anything like her game self. I didn't hate her, but their attempts at making her sympathetic didn't work too well. Having teenagers instead of adults probably hurt the movie, especially with Heather and Vincent's characters changed so dramatically. They were rather generic. Vincent's I've-Known-You-For-A-Day romance was really pathetic, regardless of backstory (I might've gagged had it not seemed so one-sided). As far as antagonists go, Claudia sucked and came in too late (and was in like, what, two scenes?). The dark Alessa scenes were so awkward, carousel or otherwise. I know to expect Pyramid Head fanservice whoring but wow, they still outdid my expectations. I wouldn't have minded so much, because I rather like him despite being overrated, but Their attempt to reconcile the plot from the first movie and the third game made no sense even if you know them both, which must've been terrible if you know neither. But I was expecting all of that. What surprised me was the poor images and lack of cool moments. Some of the monsters/visions were so cheesy we had laughing fits. The ones that did look good barely got to do anything because the plot moved so quickly. I didn't even really like the nurse scene, which should have been neat... The only thing I wanted from the movie was to get to see crazy stuff happen. An eye candy movie, y'know? But none of the moments stood out the way they did in the first movie. With Silent Hill's usually great monster designs, this is just unacceptable. I'm not burning with contempt, I just feel rather dull. Everything about it was rather dull. /an Angie review RE: What movie did you just watch? - Sevenstitch - 10-31-2012 Watched The Campaign. It was alright, there were a few pretty funny moments, but it kinda lacked the charm of some of Will Ferrell's other movies. Galifianakis was pretty funny though. The maid was the best part RE: What movie did you just watch? - Baegal - 11-02-2012 Just got back from midnight release of Wreck it Ralph. It was outstanding I honestly didn't expect much, save a few giggles at some references tossed here and there, but it was so great! Every single allusion was played off perfectly with just the right amount of subtlety, while the plot alone still worked really well. My only gripe was that the middle was too much of one "area", and the original thrill of seeing everything kind of slows down, but it's still really well developed. I highly reccommend it!! RE: What movie did you just watch? - Woppet* - 11-02-2012 Do they know their shit about video games? Or is kinda just a normal disney movie that involves video game characters? RE: What movie did you just watch? - Baegal - 11-02-2012 I'd say it's kind of a mix. The beginning is pretty awesome, namely because of all of the characters in it (Street Fighter, Dig Dug, Q*Bert, Mortal Kombat, etc.) I wouldn't say it gets too in depth regarding these things, but it's definitely much more than I expected they would do. Some things are a bit of a stretch considering how they handle glitches and arcades, but it's not enough to bother anyone too bad. I know this post is a bit confusing--sorry, I can't really explain better than that. I'd say bottom line: If you think it's just the occasional sonic or mario character walking by, prepare to be horribly mistaken. TBH if I didn't know it was Disney I probably wouldn't have guessed it. RE: What movie did you just watch? - Virt - 11-03-2012 Wreck-It Ralph hhhhhhhhhhhnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngh RE: What movie did you just watch? - Woppet* - 11-03-2012 Skyfall. Not bad, woudnt watch it again. Best James Bond I've seen but that's not saying much. RE: What movie did you just watch? - Gwen - 11-04-2012 The Man With The Iron Fists. Fucking awesome. RE: What movie did you just watch? - Woppet* - 11-10-2012 Look what's coming. RE: What movie did you just watch? - Goemar - 11-10-2012 If James doesn't stretch his neck too fly I will be disappointed... RE: What movie did you just watch? - puggsoy - 11-15-2012 Just watched Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. Once again I'm disappointed with how un-Sherlocky he is. Honestly, I feel like the makers don't expect the audience to have read the books. I wouldn't be surprised if the makers haven't read the books themselves. Apart from that though, it was a good movie. The action can be a bit overwhelming at times but the slo-mo shots are awesome, and the humour is pretty nice too. The ending was a bit too open for my taste but good nonetheless. Seriously though, the fact that it's supposed to be the original and actual Sherlock Holmes is annoying. I'm not saying I hate the character: I love how he deduces fights, and his manner is entertaining. But it's not Sherlock Holmes, and it just grinds my gears that it's meant to be. If it were even set in a different time or country, and only based off the English 19th century Holmes, that would have been better. (Also Watson should be fat and Mycroft is hilarious.) RE: What movie did you just watch? - Previous - 11-15-2012 I never liked the books, to be honest. RE: What movie did you just watch? - puggsoy - 11-15-2012 So far I've only ever read short stories, so that's where I'm getting my opinion of the original Holmes from. If you're talking about the novels I can't give my opinion on that, I've heard that because they're longer they aren't as to the point as the short stories and thus might contain lots of content that's irrelevant to the case. The short stories are pretty much focused on the mystery and Sherlock's methods of solving them, with rarely any sidetracking or unnecessary details. I do want to read the novels though, if only for the sake of knowing his most significant cases. |
