Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
Damn. Fiddles.
I've never played a Metal Gear Solid game before in my life- but I think this game is really promising and I'm really interested to see where the story will go.

Once again, I've completed the whole of Donkey Kong 64. I used a few glitches (such as one to enter Crystal Caves early) to make my time a bit easier, but some parts still gave me trouble (particularly the two Beaver Bother games). In the end, the game didn't give me too much trouble (even though my first few attempts at the second rabbit race were garbage because Lanky was severally outrun by the rabbit for some reason) and I even cleared several challenges with flying colors. In fact, the Minecart Mayhem game for Diddy took a fraction of the amount of tries I usually have to do it for. Smile

I've been trying to beat Ocarina of Time 3D Master Quest on a three heart run. Since you take double damage from everything, most of the time you can take about 2 hits, and you're dead.

So far I've made it to the Shadow Temple AFTER beating the Spirit Temple because that's how I like doing it.

Things I learned from this insane experience:

Stalfos are a bigger threat than Iron Knuckles
Redeads are instant death in a 3 heart run / Always use the Sun's Song to kill them
Farore's Wind is actually useful
Ocarina of Time had invincible rolling before Dark Souls happened
I've been playing Ocarina of Time almost entirely off of memory so I ended up running into a lot walls at first since the game is now mirrored.

Prepping for X-Com 2 by playing X-Com: Enemy Within for the first time without Long War

it's nice to not lose someone in every other mission

also rerunning FE:Awakening in Classic mode

and also mixing both up with occasional Chroma Squad lol

RE: What Are you playing? 2016 is the new 2015 - Kosheh - 07-08-2015

I beat New Super Mario Bros. U the other day. Not 100%, but enough to make me want to eject the disc out of the system and play something else until I really do feel like 100%ing it with a guide ('cos I'm an old man who can't be assed to find it all on his own time)

In the meantime though I picked Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze back up and for some reason, it's not as blood-boilingly frustrating as it used to be for me. Like, all the platforming isn't as bad as it used to be, and Cinemarella always comments on it whenever I play ("This game looks really hard but it's really pretty. Did they intentionally want to make the game this hard when designing it, or did it just turn out this way?")
I had a tendency to openly complain about how difficult it was on account of the game's sloppy controls, but now that I've gotten used to them it really isn't as bad. The difficulty though, seems to be coming from the control scheme (DK's movement feels a lot more limited for some reason, when ironically he's got much more functionality than in the original DKC games which I keep comparing it to) and the broad change in speed and level design.

While I love Cranky's functionality, he just...doesn't feel like he belongs in the platforming games as a playable character. lol

Also sudden plot twist: Cinemarella got me into Neko Atsume (it's a Japanese game and the name means "Cat Collection")
It's an extremely simplistic game for Android and iOS. You have a backyard, put toys and cat food all over the place, and cats come to visit and play. When they come over, you can take photos of them and add them to your photo album (which works like a Pokedex...but for cats) and when they leave, they tip you in sardines. Sometimes, high-roller cats will tip you in GOLD SARDINES, and you use these to buy more toys for your cats and if you save up enough gold sardines, you'll open up your back room and the cats will come in and visit you there, too.

At first, there's some pretty basic visitors, but over time you'll get crazier visitors showing up, like a Hanshin Tigers cat and a...diva cat with tube top and sunglasses.

It's so ridiculously simple and it's a game you literally boot up, check, and then shut back down. I could probably suggest this game to all of you, and you would all love the shit out of it. There's no way you can't love the shit out of these cats
They're fucking cats and they're SO CUTE

still playing xenoblade chronicles 3d ever since it came out, i'm at the fallen arm now. also started playing yoshi' woolly world since it's out in europe.

sorry usa friends, but the good news is; it's fucking great. oh and i'm also still playing splatoon, but that became more of a smash bros thing ( every now and then, or online few times a week )

and i downloaded a played a bit of attack on titan humanity in chains for the 3ds, which is whatever i guess. controls are a mess but in a way that it's actually pretty fun.

Finished Botanicula last night. It's quite interesting, pretty much every screen has something to click on and check out, even if it doesn't help with what you're actually trying to achieve. It isn't always clear what is and isn't helpful either, so you just end up clicking on everything and finding out new things.

The story was also very nicely done. Absolutely no dialogue but it still conveys a simple yet meaningful story that you actually want to see through to the end. The aesthetics are great as well, beautiful art, equally beautiful music, and sound effects that are brilliant despite obviously being vocally made (e.g. "ssshhheeeeoooowwwwww prrffff").

A simple and pretty point-and-click that's challenging but not necessarily difficult. Would recommend if you're looking for something that's interesting but not very taxing.

I just beat Splatoon's single player today, and GOD DAMN I was not expecting the final boss to be as awesome as it was. The rest of the boss fights through the game had been very basic up to that point, and I think I never even got blown up by a boss until the second to last one.

That last fight, however, was one of the most epic scenes in a Nintendo game I've ever seen. Holy crap.

Been playing a lot of Neo Geo fighting games recently. I don't even play them competitively, I just really like the graphics and overall game-feel. They tend to get irrationally difficult though :/.
I also play Super Smash Bros on my 3DS. Again, I don't care much for competition, it's more of a nostalgic Smashy feeling that makes me enjoy it. For the passed two months or so, I've been managing an island on Tomodachi Life. It's so great - I make my own character and then fill the entire island with my waifus xD!

well yeah, that's neogeo fighters for you. they always get notoriously difficult after stage 4 with reaction-based AI, especially bosses who react instantly in response to the buttons you press Blank

It makes me wonder whether or not that was intentional. Probably not with the more primitive games.
What really bugs me is when you defeat a boss and they show you their final form, which means they become near impossible to beat. Fighting in the tournament was tough enough, now I have to deal with this?

RE: What Are you playing? 2016 is the new 2015 - Kosheh - 07-20-2015

I uh I beat DKC Tropical Freeze. Holy crap

I'm not entirely crazy about the game, because it's not like the original DKC games where the difficulty's ramped up with each new world: instead, it feels more like there's some stages with heinous difficulty and jumps that require Sick Timing, and then the next level ends up being extremely easy. This is in comparison to like, new Mario platformers. What's also aggravating is that there's a lot of bullshit deaths caused by the game not explaining certain concepts to you well enough, so you'll die like 5 times trying to clear an impossible jump until you realize there's like a subtle detail to the platform that means it's a platform you can punch and it'll allow you to spring upward. Jesus Christ.
I wanna go back and 100% the game at some point, but I'll give myself a break with some of the BS the game's fed me. lol

I'm not sure what to play next. I love the absolute heck out of platformers, but I'm not sure what I should play next: Bayonetta or Wind Waker. (of course, neither is a platformer Blank)

RE: What Are you playing? 2016 is the new 2015 - Garamonde - 07-20-2015

Play Wind Waker ofc

RE: What Are you playing? 2016 is the new 2015 - Keychain - 07-20-2015

Started replaying Pikmin 2 the other day. Already 80% through the main story. This took me weeks as a kid.

I really want one of the new Donkey Kong games. I've never gotten the chance to play them.
