RE: Suggestions - aceres - 08-04-2015 So I managed to get 1 example model to work. GetArchive button will give the zip. File list combobox could be used to view other files but not functional in this one. https://googledrive.com/host/0B4aKV4dF926WfjJkNV8wbU8zSEk2NC1rejVheEdhTnVzMGIxTVprSzhRclZFR1hSeHBvb00/ There really are so many problems to take care of. For instance in the models I uploaded, - or _ characters in file names seem to cause problems with materials. Also in another file (ORAS Pokecenter) the MTL file doesn't have file extensions so it doesn't even load correctly in Blender. Guessing all these and acting accordingly won't be easy. Then I don't even know if TGA or DDS image files can be loaded correctly. Perhaps if some kind of guidelines were created, it would be easier to handle. RE: Suggestions - Deathbringer - 08-04-2015 Can we get strikethrough for comments? Unfortunately, it seems like you're running into a number of the problems I mentioned, specifically in the fact that there are so many variables that it will be very difficult to come up with a solution that works with everything already on the site without re-packaging all of them (a monumental task with 10,437 accepted models at the time of this writing). That said though, the progress is encouraging and I'd love to get something working if it's possible (though I'd still rather do it without Flash in the end). For HTML5 we'll have to wait for medusa86 since I don't know and like it. Still, If I can come up with something perhaps he can work something out from my codes (change lines to their JavaScript counterparts). Now having something that will open all is impossible since there are models that don't even work correctly (some materials don't get loaded in Blender at the moment). What I was thinking was like the best that can be done. It will open what's possible and simple give error like "can't process this" for problematic ones. We should definitely set up some guidelines and perhaps uploaders can update their work to match the guidelines. For instance: - only OBJ or DAE(for skeleton support) formats for the meshes. - only PNG or JPG formats for the images/textures. - only letters and numbers in file names, or any other labels like material or bone names. Even space, - or _ might cause problems. These are what I think would make things easier so far. RE: Suggestions - Deathbringer - 08-05-2015 (08-05-2015, 12:27 PM)Petie Wrote: Edit: It works. And for models, you need to have an OBJ/DAE in the ZIP, for it to be considered to be uploaded. ----------------------- Would it be possible on the resources, have a subsection option, kinda like this: Code: Trophies------- RE: Suggestions - Petie - 08-06-2015 (08-06-2015, 07:41 PM)ThatTrueStruggle Wrote: Would it be possible on the resources, have a subsection option, kinda like this: I'm not sure I follow what you're asking for here. I made a quick mock up of what I mean: RE: Suggestions - Dazz - 08-07-2015 I see what you mean, but it's ultimately pointless. The rare occasions when this is needed, we just use Trophies - Pokemon Series, Trophies - Zelda Series, etc. RE: Suggestions - aceres - 08-07-2015 I think having subsections in a way that they'll be loaded when needed would be better. For instance when you open a Pokemon game page, all the icons take time to load. If you saw sections and 1 icon (or 4 random icons) from the section, then you could visit the section page you need. If you are looking for Charizard content, you could just visit Generation 1 section and spare other hundreds of icons from bandwidth. RE: Suggestions - Petie - 08-07-2015 That's a lot of work for very little purpose outside of a few select games though. It would be almost universally unused and if you really want just Charizard content, you can already get it via the search function. RE: Suggestions - aceres - 08-07-2015 So here I made it more functional. You can select files from the drop down including image and text files. 3D objects can be rotated and zoomed(with mouse wheel). There are still many models that won't work properly though. Some will never show up and notice the one on the right has both OBJ and DAE files. OBJ seems to have errors mostly around cloth edges. DAE seems better but lacks transparencies. https://googledrive.com/host/0B4aKV4dF926WfkYtTHhCQWdlZXFaNUQwY3J3c2dtTUpEaHc1QzVULTVodW1aY0xuVi1LX2M/ If you want you can copy the item page and make a test page for people to test how functional this is. You need to get the SWF file at https://googledrive.com/host/0B4aKV4dF926WfkYtTHhCQWdlZXFaNUQwY3J3c2dtTUpEaHc1QzVULTVodW1aY0xuVi1LX2M/viewer3d.swf and upload it to file host. This is for Flash to be able to access archives' binary data. Then include this embed code in the test page. Code: <object data="viewer3d.swf" width="750" height="690" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> Notice there are 2 "viewer3d.swf" part, both should be changed to your SWF url. Then "Mobile - Subway Surfers - Zoe.zip" should be changed with a script code that places the archive url of that item. RE: Suggestions - Dazz - 08-07-2015 I'd be half tempted to give this a small scale test, assuming that Petie agrees. It looks like it has a pretty good result from the items you've shown!! I'd be curious to see if it'd work with the majority of models on the site. We'd likely still keep the renders that are there now and simply have a feature to click to load the viewer in. The main reason for this being lack of support for flash, such as on mobile devices, and to reduce download sizes. |
